Same song, 5th verse

Quick update here. I started my 5th round of chemo yesterday. So far, so good. I am on Gemzar/ Carboplatin this time. I am a bit worried about the bone marrow suppression, but don't think there is a whole lot I can do about it. My nurse said it is usually the platelets that take the hardest hit. But no noticeable side effects so far, like nausea. I did take a pre-emptive Compazine last night, but have had no need today.

Next Wednesday, assuming my blood counts are within range, I will get Gemzar alone. Only labs the next week. We are out of town the week of Thanksgiving, so treatment will resume on December 2 with another round of Gemzar/Carbo.

Hoping this is the one that will deliver the knockout punch.

Keep singing that song Jennali. Hopefully your labs will hold up and you'll get a good response. We've got a lot to be thankful for this Thanksgiving!

You got that right, sister! Thanksgiving this year is on November 26, the date of my surgery two years ago. I am SO thankful to be alive and feeling good.

Hang in there, Jennali. Hope you get your knock out punch! ;)

Me, too! I'm glad you're going somewhere for Thanksgiving. Have a wonderful time!

Not to worry so much about the effects of chemo on the blood. I got shots when my white blood count went down for three days after each chemo infusion and that worked fine. Then my platelets went way down but they came back up on their own without any treatment. I'm off chemo since Oct. 15 (topotecan) and awaiting results of CAT scan yesterday. I was told this is chronic for me, I'll never be cured, but to expect recurrences. I'm watched like a hawk....CAT scans, blood tests, etc.
Feeling good and happy to be alive. My husband has diabetes so the way I look at it we both have chronic diseases. Guess we all have to have something.

Hey Jennali----I am on the same thing, plus Avastin.
You are right about the bone marrow. My platelets zoomed right down to 16,000 right after round one. Round 2 was delayed for 5 days. My WBC's hit .5.
Right now, getting ready for round 3 on Monday, my platelets are 109,000. Barely high enough. But with Neulasta, my WBCs are way up at 7.5.
My Onc yesterday commented on how my bone marrow is "sensitive."
I seem to be the oddball with how badly I have reacted to all 3 drugs, so you'll probably do great!

Keep going stronger and stronger. Enjoy Thanksgiving time.

GEPI

You can protect your red and white cell counts with Shark liver oil, two capsules three times a day and Maitake - D mushroom capsules, two of them twice a day. If your platelets take a nosedive as mine did, there is an herbal tonic called "red root" available from Centre for Natural Healing in Ashland, Oregon. All three worked like a charm for me.
