Many of us have corresponded through this web site with a woman we knew only as "Viki." I just received word from her daughter that Viki has died. I believe we need to recognize primarily her accomplishments as a woman, and secondarily one whose life was cut short by ovarian cancer. She was known as Professor Victoria Buch, and she was a highly respected and brilliant scientist, in the department of Chemistry at Hebrew University in Israel. She also was well known as a courageous activist, and in addition to her scientific publications, she has written articles and given speeches about the need for peace in the Middle East, urging dialogue, understanding, and efforts towards creating win-win solutions rather than war and occupation.
Although ovarian cancer claimed her life, her teachings and wisdom will live on.

I'm sorry I didn't know Viki's background. I would have contacted her, since I, too, live sometimes in Israel and my passion is working towards peace between Israelis and Palestinians.
Thanks for sharing this sad news.

What a great loss of talent. I am so sad to hear that ovarian cancer has claimed another woman's life.

So many of our great women have lost their lives to ovarian cancer...such a tragedy for us all!

Thank you for posting this Carmeta, Clearly the lost potential from Viki's death is just as tragic as those in recent headlines. What a world we live in!

I am really saddened at the death of someone whose life was spent pursuing knowledge and peace in this world. I can only think that this world was a better place for her being in it for such a brief time.
