Retina bleed

Has anyone had a retina bleed in conjunction with chemo? I think my bleed is unrelated to chemo, but I'd really like to know if you've had this. Thanks!

I haven't and I'm replying to bump this up. Hopefully someone else will have helpful info for you!! I'm so sorry that you're having to deal with this.

Thanks for the bump and for your kind words. I had type 1 diabetes for 27 years, diagnosed at age 16. During that time, I developed diabetic retinopathy and nearly lost my vision. It was saved, thanks to laser surgery and a good doctor. The last retinal bleed I had was around 1987. My eyes have been stable since then, and all of the retina specialists, and my transplant doctor, expected me to have no more eye problems. Also, I had a successlful kidney-pancreas in 1998, so my blood glucose has been normal for the past almost-11 years.

On Monday, while walking through a grocery store, I had another bleed. I couldn't believe it! On that very day, I was three weeks out from my first Abraxane treatment. My transplant doctor suspected low platelets, but they are fine. I have my next Abraxane treatment tomorrow. I would like very much to rule out chemo as the cause of this bleed, but we may never know.

I know that we have no guarantees that ovarian cancer will be our only health problem, but I am very unhappy that this problem is back on my radar. I've had so much laser surgery on my retinas, I'm not sure they could take anymore. And if I continue to have these bleeds, that would mean blindness. Well, as Gilda/Roseanne said, it's always something!

I'm so sorry! Keep us posted.

Thanks, Verlinda! The oncology side of my team is rather certain that chemo did not cause this. I think they are probably right, but who knows, really?
