Hi,
I`ve never heard of that specific combination but I achieved a ca125 of 12 following second line treatment with doxil / carboplation. I am not sure if that means I am in remission.

Zoe,
I think remission means NED (no evidence of disease). My doctor used a normal CA-125, normal manual exam, and a CT scan before he considered me in remission.
When the CA-125 starts to rise, he will use both the manual exam and CT-scans to look for evidence of disease. According to some women on this site, it can take up to 6 months for them to find the cancer that is causing the CA-125 to rise. I don't think he will start treatment again until he can find evidence of disease; so, I don't know when I will be considered out of remission -- at the time of the abnormal CA-125, or when evidence of disease is found.
Shar123, I've heard of women going into remission on Doxil alone; so, I'm sure the chances are even better with a combination. Best of luck to both of you. I obviously have a vested interests in these second-line therapies.
Dear Shar123, IF this means you are going into remission: CONGRATULATIONS! I am Stage 1V and my oncologist tells me I will never see remission because I am @ Stage IV. My first line was the same as yours but the scan proved mixed results and I was by no means without alot of cancer! My seond line was Doxil alone which was a disaster. My CA shot up to the 4 digits from a low 69 and after 2 months I made them take me off it because I developed 7 liters of fluid and had no other reaction from the Doxil. My 3rd line is Avastin every 15 days with Taxol (and Taxol the week in between alone). The acietes is Gone and I feel great so we are doing a 4th month before scan. I am so hopeful for a decent scan this time and my CA has come down from those 4 digits to last month a 153. With all I have heard about and read about Avastin it seems to be quite a miracle worker so here's to hoping it is remission for you. By the way, check into the vaccine available for OVCA patients who completed the chemo you did and remission; it may be of value to you.
The last time I went to the support group in Louisville, I sat next to a woman who was Stage IV who has been in remission for over a year. She took 6 treatments of carboplatin/taxol and has no evidence of disease. I've never before heard a doctor say a Stage IV CANNOT go into remission, just that it is rare.
I hope they find a good chemo for you and you set the world record for remission!
I was Stage IV. I had 6 Taxols and 8 Carbos, with Avastin added in the middle. My CT at the end of Taxol and again last month are clear, and my CA125 is in the normal range. I guess that means I am in remission, although my doctor never uses that word. No one ever said anything about Stage IV not going into remission. I will stay on Avastin as long as I tolerate it.
I was stage IV at diagnosis and went into remission. Only problem is it didn't last long. I've heard of other stage IV patients having good remissions that lasted several years.
