Right now as I am facing the very reall possibility of residual disease any replies will be highly encouraging.

Cancer Surgery Docetaxel Ovarian cancer

I would what GEPI is asking as I'm in the same spot she is with epethelial clear cell....

I have 1c clear cell. I had first surgery 7/07 with 6 cycles of taxol/carbo. My ca125 was only 28 after surgery (didn't have before surgery because cancer wasn't suspected) 1.5 after 6th chemo. I was in remission for 16 months. ca125 rose to 18. PET scan showed 1 tumor in area of where my ovary would have been. Had surgery again but dr. could only get appox. 95% of tumor due to being tangled in blood vessels to my leg. I have started chemo again and decided to go with the taxol/carbo again as it worked for a while the first time. I had my 2nd chemo today and ca125 is down to 7 (praise the LORD). It has also been suggested that I have radiation after 3 chemos then have the last 3 since cancer is contained to one area. If this will help me have a longer remission I may try it. I'll going to talk with Radiation Oncology dr. first to find out what the side effects are. Some people say better than chemo some say not. My dr. hasn't given me any addition info. about clear cell other that it is aggressive. Not sure if this will help you but it is my experience. I am taking it day by day and praying for the best. I feel pretty good except for 3-5 days afer chemo but I still get out of bed and do a few normal things and just rest alot. I will be returning to work next week. Keep us posted.

Hello,

Thank you for the information which is useful to me. My understanding is Carbon/Taxol works if there is being a remission of 12 months or more. It seems to be working for you again and this is really good news.

As for me I have an appointment in the UK arranged sometime ago and I will wait for that before deciding on further treatments. Right now it seems that Gemzar/Cisplatin may be an option.

I think it is good you are going back to work. I have done the same and found that it helps take my mind off things.

Lets keep in touch

Best Regards
GEPI

Gepi,

One of my friends who has clear cell went on Doxil, and that seems to have stabilized her, although I don't know any of the specifics. Will get more info.

Also, I have another friend who is just starting a clinical trial (using Perifosine and Docetaxel) that is supposed to work really well against clear cell, but she is just getting started; so, don't know how effective it is going to be for her. She also was put on Doxil, but it didn't slow down her tumor progression; so, this would be a third-line, and won't be available to the rest of us for awhile.

Will keep you informed as to how things go; so, you'll know what is in the pipeline.

I've hear good things about Gemzar/Cisplatin regimen, and there is an article that Gemzar and Doxil are equally effective for the treatment of platinum resistant ovarian cancer. See below for the link:

Hello,

Thank you for the info. Gemzar/doxil is another combination under consideration by the doctor.

By the way do you know what they mean by overall survival? Is it a median?
