Hi Kim, I looked at your profile -I'm 61, I too am a Stage IIc, had hyst. 8/8/08, didn't have any symptoms except some pain that was associated with fibroid tumors last June, and then there it was when I had the hyst. I feel very blessed and onc said if we had waited 6 months longer it would have been a different story and much more serious. I went through 6 rounds of chemo, carboplatin/taxol, had my second onc visit last Tuesday since end of treatments, ca-125 was 8 and I am scheduled for the ct scan June 29. My onc originally wanted me to have 12 months of more maintenance chemo but I opted not to do that and that was fine with him. I am positive and I think that and the faithfulness of the Lord brought me through. I have not had any of the symptoms so many had on here, first few days after each treatment I would be a little weak and nauseated slightly but I pressed through, tried to exercise each day, made myself eat something anthing that tasted slightly good (actually I gained weight and I am still trying to get it off), my family was encouraging because I had told them early on, I didn't want to hear anything that wasn't positive and uplifting. I had a wonderful church that supported me all the way through and a few weeks ago when I finally said I was through with the hats and the wig, and went to church without them, the church and my family told me how nice I looked (even though hair is VERY short!) I hope you come through the treatments the same, girl. I know it is different with each person, but I pray you come through easily. When it is over, you can look back and say it seems like a dream, a very bad one at that!
I have heard fantastic things about the Cornuccopia House in Chapel Hill.
And Cornucopia programs are free!
Duke has support groups, but I haven't attended any of them.
I'm in North Raleigh (Wake County, actually). Where are you?
Hi Dot....I am in North Raleigh as well!! I live off of Strickland Road, how about you? :)Kim
I have been to the one at Duke. I can't say I enjoyed it because it was more sad than anything else. I want to be uplifted by these things. Even though I am young, I have a great support group in Person County. It is 4 older women and they are just so wonderful. They encourage me, they listen to me, and they have gave me the best advice. We have great meetings. It would be a drive but it is worth it. It is about 45 min from North Raleigh.
Hey, Kim. I'm off of Creedmoor Road, about 1 mile north of 540. Sounds like we're close!
Dot
Hi...how often does your support group in Person County meet? Sounds like you have a great group. :)Kim
It meets once a month. On the first Tuesday of the month! I will not be at the next one because I think it is the week of the Ovarian Conference. But we are having a dinner meeting on the first Tuesday of August and it may be worth coming to.
While collecting recipes for the OVCA survivors cookbook, Sara Patterson was the wellness coordinator in NC. You can reach her at: sara.patterson@cancerservicesonline.org
She can give you a list of support groups that are available in your area.
Good Luck!!
Kathy
I also live in North Carolina and Morrisville area.
I'm going to clinical trial at duke very soon.
Just few days ago I have removed the stomatch fluid 4 ltrs.....I'm very concerned and worried.....
Hi uju99....I am in a vaccine study at Duke right now as well. I think I read that you are to start chemo on Friday, is that right? Good luck to you; hope you do well.
:)Kim
Hi Koh847.
thanks for giving the spirit
what is vaccine ? Is that not chemo ?
Yes, I'm most likely start by chemo
Hi, the vaccine I am on is part of a study. You receive it after chemo when you are considered clear of cancer. It teaches your body, basically, to see the cancer as foreign and kill it if it tries to return.
