Hi Eileen,
I have also read your second post. I do not want to add to your anxiety, but my gyn did not see my tumours with the ultrasound. She did however see the fluid in my stomach and sent me to the hospital thinking I have appendix problems. There they saw it rightaway in their ultrasound. Had 9cm tumours on both ovaries, colon, etc. I did not understand how my gyn could have missed it. I have now looked for a different gyn. But if you have a history of ovca, then I am sure your gyn looks especially hard for anything on your ovary. I really understand how scared you are. Since you have already changed doctors and he suggested the ca125, xrays etc., I think you are on the right track. The symptons can be lots of things, like your doctor said, thats why so many doctors dont even consider ovca. If everything comes back negativ, celebrate. I really hope you never have to post on this site again, for the reason you have nothing to do with ovca for the rest of your live. ;-)

The VUS are great to detect tumors! But I'd like to see them do a CT scan to make sure the cancer isn't hiding. That's what Ovarian Cancer does, it likes to hide!

Absolutely! it is called Cancer of Unknown Primary. Even some oncologists haven't ever heard of it. That means there are no tumors, the cancer cells are just all over the abdomen. I did have a vague bloated feeling but when I mentioned that to my PCPs they would feel for a mass and figure it was nothing when they couldn't find anything. I still don't know if that was the cancer, since I had it for several years. I never had fluid in my abdomen or anything, but eventually it metasthetized into my lungs and I had fluid build up there. With a CA125 over 1000, I had every kind of possible scan and test and that was the conclusion. A genetic test finally showed it was ovarian-type cancer (which includes fallopian tube and peritoneal carcinomas). The treatment is the same no matter which of these you have, and even though I was Stage IV, it seems to be under control. The good news, you never need surgery; the tough part is you can't be sure when if it's gone. I have just gone onto single-agent Avastin which my doc has a lot of confidence in. I guess I could be on it for a long time, but he believes it will keep the cancer from recurring, and my side effects aren't too bad, so it's not a bad price to pay.

I feel so bad for all of you women that have suffered in anyway from any form of cancer! I most Truly do!!!
I am praying for all of you and most of all praying that I am not suffering from the same thing! I also feel bad that in so many cases we have to fight for the correct tests and procedures to be done. I just had the CA125 Done today, only to be told by the tech that you can get false results all the time. This sickness sure doesn't want to be found. The Ultra Sound showed NOTHING....and to people that haven't been in our boat, I almost sound like I want them to find cancer....I most certainly do not, but my signs and symptoms and family history keep pointing to that direction, I don't want something that is treatable now to go undiagnosed and be untreatable.

Unfortunately you can have OV CA with nothing showing up on pelvic exam, ultrasound or even CT for a while. The CA 125 works about 80% of the time. I hope you don't have cancer and never get it.

Can you ladies share some of your early symptoms

My advice is to skip any more visits with regular gyn's and go see a gynecological oncolgigist. Fortunately my gyn found my enlarged ovaries but then I immediately asked to be referred to an oncolgist. I had a total hysterectomy and 18 weeks of chem and an so glad I put myself in the oncologists hands as soon as I did. We actually caught it in Stage 1b which is amazing. I have an excellent prognonis. Yahoo!

My transvaginal ultrasound showed nothing!

My physician then sent me for an MRI and a large mass was discovered.

I'm told 15% of the time ultrasounds are not accurate.
