Our Numbers - How many of us a month - Are joining this group?

I have been on this site since Sept or Oct 08. I was just going through the members and looking at the ages, where we are from and the incredible number of us joining for answers, information or just to see what others are experiencing and it made me realize how important lobbying Capitol Hill next month will be. I know that OCNA has the numbers of us that join a month but I would really like to know our statistics just from this site alone. I belong to the local chapter of NOCC and I am also on the ACOR site and others. It just proves the importance of spreading the word not only to the government for financing of research but to each of everyone of us touched by this disease to tell every woman we touch in our daily life so that may be diagnosed early or someone they tell and so on. Just wanted to say I am sorry we are all here but only we along with families and friends can get the word out. Bless us all and hugs to all. Lani

Cancer Surgery Endometriosis Ovarian cancer

One of my best friends and coworker just found out on Friday that she has Ovarian Cancer. She is scheduled for surgery on Wednesday. In my school district, there are 4 of us (that I know of) with ovarian cancer. It seems like a lot for such a supposed rare disease.

I had a colonoscopy Friday - 2 of 6 nurses there are Stage 3 survivors!

I wonder if there are updated statistics on OVCA. My doctor even commented on how it was extremely rare for women in 20s and 30s to have OVCA but I see women in that age group on here all the time. I was 43 when I was dx'd two years ago. That's supposed to be young for this disease. It could be that younger people are more comfortable accessing these type of websites and that's why it seems like there are a lot but it still appears that I hear about a lot more cases of OVCA than I would've expected.

I believe that the numbers are skewed due to the preponderance of hysterectomies from about 1950 until the 1990s for ANY female reproductive problem. With growing evidence that some serous epithelial ovarian cancers may be precursored by endometriosis, my belief that the numbers are really skewed has only been reinforced.

Basically, the numbers they had were actually false because they were taking women's reproductive parts when they were precancerous and the majority did not have peritoneal cancer occurrences.
