Hi...I ended up having the lump in my side biopsied today and it showed ovca cells. I guess I move on from here to chemo, we'll see. What a rollercoaster this last week has been. My surgeon is now 0/2. (He orig. said 99% certain I did not have ovarian cancer).
Sort of in shock...just finished chemo in April.

Oh, Kim, I am so sorry. This Beast is so hard to slay.

I know it must be especially disheartening to recur so soon. BTDT. Give yourself time to adjust to the news, and then get up to fight some more.

Any thought to getting a new doctor?

Keep us posted on what happens next. I'll be sending good thoughts your way.

I am so sorry but remember, this is a chronic thing for most people and they just rock on and there are many other drugs. Hang in there and keep us posted.

Sorry to hear about the recurrence. I so wish this disease would just go away instead of being chronic. Is this considered a subcutaneous lesion?
You are in my prayers.

Oh Kim, I am so sorry to hear this. Even though we all know it probably will come back, it is so hard to hear. Especially so soon. Hang in there and take one day at a time. I'm in my first recurrence too. Life just isn't fair sometimes.

I'm sorry. That is tough news. I wish I was still nieve enough to think having a lower stage meant better outcome. This just stinks.

I'm so so sorry. That stinks. My Dr told me he was sure it wasn't cancer both times, "it would be VERY unusual", and was wrong both times... Sometimes I think he tells me what he wants to believe. I will be thinking of you. Please keep us updated on how you proceed.

Kim,
Sorry you have to go through this again. Even though we know it's probable, it is still tough to hear. But, you will pull up your socks and join the rest of us and keep fighting!

I'm a little shocked that your doctor would say he was 99% sure - that's really going out on a limb when someone has had symptoms. Maybe you should consider a new doctor if you aren't comfortable.

You can do this and I hope they find the right treatment that will work for you. Good luck.

Hi Favorite Aunt...that's just it, I did not have any symptoms when I was originally diagnosed. But he is still 0/2. I guess it is unusual and he was going on his experience.

Thanks for the support.
Kim

Kim,
I guess we expect the doctors to know everything and some just have more experience than others. It's good you are on your toes and don't give him the benefit of the doubt unless you are convinced.

You hang in there. We're here for you.

So sorry to hear this news. I am fairly new to this network, I read your profile after reading your post. I, too, was diagnosed in Nov. of 2008-- with stage IIa OVCA.
Like you, holding out hope that early diagnosis is key. Keep up the fight! Prayers are with you.

Hi,

The chemo doctor once said to me "with this disease you should never be too happy or too sad" - he was referring to developments. Well he has been proven ever so right.

Do not be discouraged. I agree with the others. This is a chronic disease and however much we dream of a long remission/cure, most of us do not achieve that.

You have already been through the 1st treatment and whatever comes next is going to be easier than that.

We keep fighting

Kim,

Since you so recently finished your first chemo, it just means that you were resistant to the first regimen. There are many women who have much better results, and achieve remission with the second chemo regimen.

I have a friend who is currently in remission after having a second-line therapy since she was considered platinum refractory after initial treatment.

Just curious, Minniem, was she clear cell? If so, do you know what drug combination she was on? Thanks, Kim

Yes she is clear cell. Was on 6 cycles of carbo/taxol first time. Had they known she was refractory, they would have stopped at 3, but her CA-125 is not a good indicator for her; so, they didn't know her disease had progressed until they did the CT scan.

She then went on Doxil, and has been in remission for around 4 months now.

She was originally staged at IIB, but since her gynecologist (who did the surgery because he didn't think it was ovarian cancer) didn't biopsy any lymph nodes, her current gyn/onc considers her unstaged.

Hope this answers your questions. Please keep me posted. I also am clear cell, and only two months post chemo; so, I don't know if I am platinum resistant or not. As I understand it, a lot of clear cell survivors are.

Best, Minnie

Sorry to hear about that Kim. I truly believe you will beat this. Stay strong...God is with you, and you will be victorious! I just said a prayer for you.

Thanks "God is Faithful", I have strong faith too. I pray a lot...for all of us.
Kim

Minnie,

I was Stage 2b, grade 3 with clear cell. I'm 23 months past chemo with no evidence of disease so far!

God bless!

Kim,

I'm so sorry. You're in my prayers.

Verlinda,

Thanks for letting me know that some clear cell do respond well to carbo/platinum, and here's hoping that Doxil works for Kim. Hopefully in time they will be able to evaluate our tumors, and give us a targeted therapy based on our specific types.

Minnie

When people say clear cell on here, does that always mean Epethelial Clear Cell? I've always wondered this.

Kim, please keep us updated on how you're doing.
