My Clinical Trial has been canceled

As some of you may know I was on the Nanotax Clinical Trial. I had surgery July 31 to put in an abdominal port in which they would put the nanotax directly into my abdominal cavitiy. I started the trial on Aug. 4.

I started noticing that the bottom incision wasn't healing right and when I went in to get the stiches out I began to drain from one of the stich holes. It drained alot of fluid and the doc was concerned that it was the nanotax that they had put into my abdominal cavitiy, it was seeping out where the cathader went into the ab lining and creating a huge pocket under the incision. In the last week I had to go in three times to get it looked at and the third time (this last Thursday) my doctor removed the port. Putting an end to the trial. I now have a huge hole in my gut, we are packing it twice a day with gauze and Home Health is coming Monday to insert a wound vac.

I am so upset over this, nothing like having your treatment suddenly up in the air with no idea what I am going to do from here.

My main concern for right now though is to get my gut healed up.

Thanks for listening to me vent.

Lynn

This is horrible. I hope you heal quickly.
I'm sure your doctor has another plan. Take care and keep us posted.

Lynn, I am so sorry that this has gone badly for you. You have been very brave to try this new route of treatment. I hope that you heal quickly and can begin a new course of chemo.

Sending you haeling thoughts and prayers.

Oh my gosh! Bless your heart, Lynn, like it isn't enough already. I will be praying for you for a speedy healing. perhaps someone here has recommendations (my mind is a blank right now) about supplements or foods you can take to speed the healing.

Lynda

Extra Vitamin C is important for collagen development, which is what wound healing needs. Boosting your immune system in general would be helpful.

I am sorry you are having to deal with this development. I can only imagine your disappointment. But concentrate on getting better and then you and your doc can come up with the next step.

I am so sorry this happened to you, they had to replace my port after it leaked twice and at one point he said I couldn't have one and I literally went ape.

I am sure they will treat you with the gold standard and you can get the other stuff later,,again, I wish this hadn't happened.

Are you on any other chemo drugs? I began three years ago with IP chemo through the abdominal port, but some stupid infusion nurses put the chemo into the scar instead of the port and the port had to be removed because they pierced the port with a needle. I received the rest of my chemo through the chest port. Can this drug be given through a chest port?

Zircons, no unfortunately this chemo was designed to go directly into the abdominal cavitiy, not the blood stream. As far as for any other chemo I am not on anything now. I haven't seen my oc yet, have an appointment with him in the morning but I am having to cancel it for now (I seriously don't have the gas money to go). I won't know anything tell I can see him.

Thanks everyone for your responses, it has meant alot to read your words of encouragement and well wishes.

ugh. i'm so sorry to hear about the setback. how long has it been since you were diagnosed? when was your hysterectomy and debulking done?
my daughter is scheduled to have abdominal port surgically done on the 15th of this month, with first IP chemo on the 18th. I am having 2nd thoughts, now.
I'm sure they will go to IV chemo with you soon...and a lot of late stage go into long remission with that. Don't worry. It will all work out for you. Hope the hole in the gut heals nicely.
hugs

Hi Kimsmom, I was diagnosed three years ago 9/28/06 and hysterectomy and debuking done 10/13/06. I have been thru chemo twice before they decided to try this trial. My biggest suggestion to you would be to talk to them about given your daughter more time to heal after the surgery to put the abdominal port in. My Gyn/Oc believes this wouldn't of happened if they wouldn't of started so soon after my surgery, if they would of gave it time to heal up and build up some scar tissue around the tube. So please talk to your doctors about this, hopefully they will listen. My surgery was on 7/31 and they started the chemo 8/4. It was just to soon after surgery. Thanks for your well wishes and I am hoping for the best for your daughter, please keep me informed on how she does.

I'm so sorry you have had to endure this. Please be thankful that you are at least healing at home and not in the hospital as I have had to these past couple of months. Realize that you will get through this; I too had some wounds to pack and many home health care visits from nurses and am now on intravenous liquid nutrition; 9 more pounds to gain before I get off it.

Can you eat anything or drink with out any problems? Do you get constipated pretty easily? Make sure that if you do have to take anything for pain that you do those stool softeners. I am sending you lots of healing vibes and praying for a full recovery. I am a nearly 7 year survivor of this beast. Please don't get discouraged; get angry and fight hard!

Sending you lots of love and huge hug!

Jayne, thank you so much for what you had to say. You sound like quite the fighter yourself. I will take your advice, you seem to have been around the block once or twice. I am so sorry to hear you also have had to go thru this.

7 years! That is great!

I am closely watching the pain killer intake and Senna S is my best friend. LoL. I was getting a little depressed but I will pull my chin back up and keep on truckin on.

Thank you again for your encouragement. God bless you and all that you do.

Lynn
