Missed Periods?

0 Recommendations

I have a question for you ladies. I've had several problems over the last year or two and things haven't changed. However last night I went to urgent care because of abdominal pain and back pain that has been particularly bothering me for a couple of weeks now and had just gotten unbearable. Also, for the first time in 20 years that I've had one, my period didn't come this month. (with exception of pregnancy of course) I have never ever missed a period and about every other month have two periods a month along with a week of vaginal discharge and mucus and blood from rectum. I had been diagnosed with an enlarged ovary and cysts that never went away over 6 month period in which my gyn opinion wasn't a problem. I asked him for an ultrasound at the last yearly two months ago and he said there wasn't any need.
I guess my question is, was a missed period and abdominal pain reason for you to seek medical attention that led to diagnosis?
Btw, the doctor said he couldn't find anything wrong in ct scan. I asked him if he thought I was making it up. He wasn't sure what to say. I said, everyday I wake up, I cannot stand straight up out of bed. I can't turn over in bed, I hold my stomach when I cough, sneeze, etc. from the pain. He gave me a scrip for pain and antibiotic and said come back tomorrow if you are still in pain. Yea right! I felt like an idiot. When he walked out of the room I just cried and told my husband he had no idea how it felt to hurt every single day all day long and have someone discredit you with a prescription for pain medicine.

Before my dix, I stopped having periods, but didn't have any pain. Having an ovarian cyst for 6 mos and doctor is not worried, would worry me. Hopefully, it is not ovarian cancer. My suggestion, find a doctor that listens to you and doesn't make you feel like a hypochondriac.

Good luck

first off hello iam Paula,

sorry my computer is wacky tonight I think it has chemo brain. To answer you I would like to know if you have seen a gynocological,Oncologist they are the experts in Ovarian cancers and perferablty a woman. Only because you need the right answers. Not that a man doctor dosen't have the right answers but woman tend to be a bit more compassionate. Let me know when you do this. sorry for all the stuff your going thru. Good luck .

It would seem like a good idea to get a second opinion...and I agree with loveoneanother, see if you can find a gyno/oncologist or at least a gynocologist.

I had missed one period and had pelvic pain that only lasted a couple of days, that had happened 3 months before i was dx. I would find another doctor. Have them run a ca125 i know it doesn't work for everyone but at least it is another option. Good luck. My doctor although not comforting said no one should have pain.

Well, I'm no doctor, but I can tell from your symptoms that something is amiss. The rectal bleeding is concerning, also. Didn't the ER doctor have any concern about that?

There are many benign conditions that affect us, but you do want to rule out ovarian cancer. Too many times it is swept under the rug or misdiagnosed. Better to pitch a fit and be found okay than to ignore it.

If I were you, I would make an immediate appointment with a gynecologic oncologist. He or she may order a transvaginal and/or abdominal ultrasound. Probably a CA125 blood test as another puzzle piece.

Good luck getting to the bottom of all this misery. I am so sorry you are in pain, and I hope you get some answers soon.
