Medical Insurance

My wife was diagnosed with stage IV ovarian cancer in May and has since returned to work which has been a blessing and a curse. It's a blessing because it helps keep her mind off things but a curse because she frequently finds herself inundated with work and stress. She would like to do something else career wise but really needs the insurance. I work for a large company and have a great medical insurance plan and was considering adding her to mine. I was wondering if anyone has experience with this? Is there a good chance they wouldn't even pick her up because of her condition? How high could the premiums be (very subjective I know)?

Let me tell ya, this insurance thing can be a pain in the butt. We lost our ins. when my husband lost his job. We barely could find one to cover me unless we could pay $1100 for me alone! Of course we couldn't do that. We did get coverage through a company that insures people that cant get coverage or it is really expensive because of your condition. Now heres the kicker---- my cancer they considered pre-existing for a year. Wont cover cancer related till after that. Guess what?? My cancer is back and my year is not up. So I'm screwed..... Be sure and check it all out first. Dont want you in my shoes.........

Ask your insurer if they have a pre existing clause. I switched to my husband's plan about 1 1/2 years before my diagnosis and they did not ask him about my medical history at that time. But I wonder if I had not been enrolled for over a year they would found some reason to exclude me.
I wanted to stay in my job but due to the long commute and stress I decided to apply for SSD.
Good Luck.

I agree. Check with your insurer. See about pre existing disease.

You really have to contact your provider, tell them the story, and get the specific answers directly from them. Policies change, so you need the latest information which only they can provide.
