Is a PET/CT really sensitive to ovulation

0 Recommendations

Hi Girls,
My PET/CT scan last week showed a 3 cm x 1.7 cm mass on the left pelvic wall, which the report said was consistent for a left ovarian cyst. It had a PET SUV value of 9.0, but it turns out that I was ovulating at the time of the scan. Could that affect my results so much? I just had surgery at the end of January to remove my other ovary and tube for a borderline tumor. My oncologist said the other ovary and everything else looked fine at the time. However, there were borderline cells found in the wash, so I was staged as a 1C. No other treatment recommended except to follow-up in 3 months.

My doctor wants to see me for a pelvic ultrasound in July to see if it is still there. If it is, she said she'd probably want to do another laparoscopy. Should I be worried? It seems like 4 months isn't that long for that size of a cyst to grow. But I'm no expert, that's for sure. The report also said that due to the ovary being so high up in there, an ultrasound may have a hard time seeing it, so they recommended another PET. But my oncologist wants to just do an ultrasound. What do you all think? Thanks.

Gosh, I hate to say something that might scare you, BECAUSE I DON'T KNOW ABOUT THE OVULATING ISSUE!!! but I just saw my Onc on thurs, to go over my PET to start preparing for tx of my first recurrence. He told me that SUV over 5 is bad. But I am Stage 3C so we assume bad things for me.

So........ask the doc if ovulating can raise the SUV. Then you won't be so worried and can make better decisions.

i know that inflamation can raise it. I had a HUGE zit on my back once, and the PET picked it up, but due to no SUV of course it was nothing. Also the latest PET picked up my mild arthritis, but didn't assign SUV numbers. So clearly PET s pick up other things, but I just don't know about ovulating.

I do have a lymph node in my neck that hovers around SUV 2.5-2.7 and they think it probably is cancer since it was there before chemo, then went away and it now back, but it isn't active enough to actually say it is cancer.

I currently have a big node with SUV of 16.
Worrying is always worse than asking, I think. So I would ask.
Jeanie

Thanks Jeanie. I will be thinking about you and sending positive thoughts your way too.
