I need an idea?

Ok I am doing a charity volleyball game at my school for run I am doing for ovarian cancer. I want to get 500 people in the gym to watch the game. If I get 500 people in the gym, I need to find something to do to myself if I get that number here.

I don't understand what you are doing besides having a volleyball game.

Good morning my Butterfly,

I think your idea is in your screen name. If 500 people show up, advertise that you will dance and flutter around the gym, as a giant teal butterfly.

This is a Chrisitan symbol of both resurrection (acknowledging and calling forth your mom's spirit) and transformation (of you both physically in your outfit and actually through your mom's influence).

It also would symbolize that you are trying to give the ovarian cancer movement "wings" and increase awareness and research to help "lift up" the women, who have suffered like your mom.

You could also have the slide show of your mom that your aunt made projected onto the gym wall while doing the dance. Have you heard Emily Lou Harris' latest album? It has everything to do with our "next journey". There is a song I love and always think of those I've lost, particulary those with ovarian cancer and want it for my memorial, which is not for a long time, maybe decades. The song starts with the words, "As I go sailing round the room...seems to fit perfect hear.

Some women on this site complain about competing with the pink ribbon movement. I don't have that problem as both a breast and ovarian survivor. But it has come to me responding to your post that perhaps a teal butterfly might better symbolize our journey and aspirations.

You might ask your sister to join you in the butterfly dance to help lift her spirits as well. Tell her for me, that as a mother the hardest part, by far, of both my cancer diagnosis, which were 4 years apart, was telling my four children, ages 14-21 the first time.

I dreaded inflicting on them the fear and constant cloud of worry the diagnosis can bring. I waited til the absolute last moment the day before my two surgeries. Your mom was probably trying to protect you both.

I would feel badly if any my children continued to dwell on only the negative instead of the many positive times. Have your sister read the Shack, it's about devastating loss and parental love. You should read it first though to be sure she is able to handle it.

I have copied a definition of the symbolism of the butterfly attached below.
The Holisticshop Dictionary

Butterfly

Keyword summary: transformation, joyful dance.

Butterflies are powerful symbols for transformation and change throughout many traditions and belief systems.
In the caterpillar stage we may be stuck with ideas we don’t like or behaviours or paranoias we want to change.
In the cocoon stage sometimes not a lot appears to be happening although subconsciously and consciously ideas are gestating and changing. Sometimes we can feel a bit lost at this stage.
Then comes the final transformation to beautiful colourful floating butterfly. The wings pump with blood and we are free to float into our new world, flitting about seeing things from a whole new perspective.
To wear or have around you the symbol of butterfly is to state your intention to flutter through life in joy. Butterfly teaches us that patience brings its rewards and as long as we keep working and developing ourselves the final glorious butterfly stage will come. To wear butterfly is to set your target like an archer - - joy is my goal, joy is my reality, joy will come, joy is here now. When we encounter butterflies in our daily lives they are always a joy to find and a good totem. When one day you open your curtains and a butterfly flutters up you know that a glorious change is taking place in your life. You see the butterfly flutter his wings, almost dancing along. This is what butterfly teaches, that true joy is within the dance of life.

I like to read what people are up to, while drinking my morning coffee. You just took me on a fantasy trip of how I might do this. It's obvious your mother raised wonderful children. Keep up the good work. Let me know what YOU decide to do and don't even think about that jock thing of shaving your head. Your mom would not want that. My oldest son who is bald at 26 suggested his younger brothers do this for me and I strongly objected. They listened... for once!

Good Luck,
Sue

I think that is so awesome what you just wrote to me.....My mother totally believed in what the butterfly represented in her life and I looked up to her for that. I will look up that book, and I will read it..I have another teacher who said she would dye her hair teal with me to represent ovarian cancer, but I think your idea is brilliant. One of my fellow coaches has some wings too. So how are you?

I really like that butterfly idea. Very Brilliant! You might even convince some of your friends to join you. Fabric stores can be so much fun or "Michael's". Choreograph a whole routine of fluttering around in the gym to music or a song that meant so much to your mother; dedicate this to her and all women suffering or have suffered from this silent but deadly killer. Those are just my thoughts and ideas.

I've really gotten "into" butterflies lately. Now, I know why. Thanks for posting that beautiful description.
I went to an auction last month and I was the only bidder on a selection of about 10 butterfly pins....they must have been there for me..."seeing things from a whole new perspective"..Isn't that the truth????

That is an awesome ideal...I love the ideal of dancing around to a song that was really special to your mom as butterflies...I think it would be a real tribute to her
