Hi, I was on Topo last year - had it in combo with Carbo. I had hair thinning (nothing noticable to anyone but me). I usually bounced back about 4-5 days after infusion but it wasn't too bad. (My frame of reference is always Taxol/Carbo which I think was the pits.) In between treatments, I was pretty normal. As treatments went on, it did seem cumulative and recovery was a little more intense but still not too bad and I had some fatigue (but again not bad) the rest of the time - an afternoon nap usually did the trick. So far I've been really lucky with my blood counts - mine are never affected very much from chemo and this was true of the Topo for me too. Good luck.

I am getting Hycamtin (aka topotecan) now. It makes me tired--I take a nice nap just about every afternoon and can sleep away half the morning if I don't have any meetings or appointments to get to. It is doing a number on my blood marrow--I'm immunosuppressed and my platelets are down, but most significantly my red blood cells are so low I'm close to needing a transfusion. I get out of breath making the bed! Gemzar did the same to me a year ago, but they're giving me a shot of Procrit each week. Yesterday my shot was 60,000 units, the most I've ever had.
Topo causes hair loss in some people, but not me, so far. Fatigue is the most common side effect.

Topotecan is a cancer medication that interferes with the growth and spread of cancer cells in the body.

Topotecan is used to treat ovarian cancer, small cell lung cancer, and certain types of cervical cancer.

Topotecan may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide.

Never heard of it. What is it?
