It is almost midnight - a beautiful summer night. My daughter and her friends are outside celebrating her 14th birthday. The music is blaring (with some music I don't know) , the tent is set up in the backyard for overnight sleeping, and I hear the chatter and laughter of a gaggle of teenage girls. I feel amazingly happy and amazingly hopeful right now. It is hard to believe that several months after my daughter's 12th birthday, I was diagnosed with stage IIIC ovarian cancer and didn't know what the future would hold for me.. Although I have mostly been hopeful about my future since then, I have had my moments of anxiety (some of you may remember how buying her confirmation dress got me thinking about the "what-ifs" a little too much ). But for tonight, my life is happy and normal. Seeing my little girl celebrate another birthday makes me so thankful for my continued remission and so hopeful that I will be here to see her celebrate many, many more birthdays.
