How long did it take for your hair to be back to normal? By August all my hair was gone, now (Jan. 2009) it is about 1 1/2 to 2 " long?

Facial hair is about he change in hormones. It's TERRIBLE!!! However, once you are complete with your process and your skin gets back to normal (not so sensitive). I would suggest looking into laser hair removal, it will lighten it, change the coarse texture (if you have trouble with that), and it can eliminate the hair all together. It works best on people that have lighter skin and darker hair...like me! I was always told that once a hair follicle is "ON" you can turn it off until you kill it (laser hair removal)...so DWM26, you are so so lucky!!

Fireball,
I took carbo/taxol and mine started coming out on day 18 after chemo

I had a lot of hair on my face mostly sideburns I ended up shaving it. It didn't grow back

Yea What's up with the hair on the face? does everyone get this? Another reason to hate chemo!!!! How long does it last on the face?

Stacy

I am 6.5 weeks out from my last chemo treatment. I have a nice cover of hair on my head, very very short but it is growing. My eyebrows and lashes are about 1/2 back to normal. I am starting to look somewhat "normal" with my brows growing back in. Without them I felt like I looked really strange.

I have hair growing back everywhere and need to shave my legs now....actually my face has a TON of hair on it now. Whats up with that????

I still wear a scarf, but hope to ditch it in a few more weeks.

I LOVE HAIR!

Best Wishes to you all,
Kris

My hair is growing nicely its about 1 to 11/2inches
but my eye brows and lashes are still sparse. I never lost them completely but I haven't had much regrowth.
I am hoping they will eventually grow back.
what do you think?

Fireball,
My hair fell out about 14 days after the first taxol hit. That was so sad but made it through that time. Not as bad as loosing my eyebrows and lashes. I kind of liked being bald or at least have short hair like Halley Berry. heheh. I just want my brows and lashes back.

Just cut your hair which will help with the mess and the pain. I did have head pain and my hair felt crunchy when it started to fall out.

I am 8 months post chemo. Hair came back pretty fast. My eyelashes and brows seemed to come back overnight! The bang area seems to take the longest time to grow--for me anyway. BUT...are you ready for this? When my pubic hair came back...OMG! It's ridiculous. I call it my Chia Pet! hehe

If I have a recurrance and lose my hair again, I'm going to buy that t-shirt that says, "Do you think this shirt makes me look bald?"!

My hair came back as straight and fine as ever. I was able to have it trimmed to be a consistent spiky do 5 months after chemo ended. I always had really thick hair, but I don't now. I don't have bald spots anymore, but I don't think I'm going to get it all back.

Now I've chosen to keep it short because I can mousse and blow dry it. I got so spoiled over the time saved when I was bald, that I'm looking for ways to keep hair styling time to a minimum! Mine is also much less oily. (Of course, my whole body still feels dried out.)

Oh my first go around of chemo in 2005 I started losing my hair on day 13 so by day 15 I had called my hairdresser and my best friend went with me and we took a bottle of wine and had a party while I had my head shaved and if I do say so myself I looked pretty good! LOL I'll never forget what my wonderful big brother told me when I was stressing over losing my hair...he said 'Sis at least yours will grow back...look at me I'm bald and it is not coming back" We had the best laugh over that...even made pictures os the 2 of us and sent out by email for them to vote on the best looking head....I won!!!
This year when I had a reoccurance I took a different chemo and did not lose my hair.
Just remember my survior sisters...we are all beautiful hair or bald!!!!!

My hair started falling out 10 days after my first chemo. I made an appointment to have it shaved and although it was difficult for everyone (my kids and husband came) I was instantly relieved. Watching my hair fall out in the shower and wondering what I would find on my pillow was the hardest for me. I now have a wig and love love love it and get lots of compliments.... not sure what that says about my "natural" hairstyle, hehehe. Not to mention the time and money I save on shampoo and hairdresser fees.

I got impatient for my hair to grow long enough. I found a hairdresser who did a straightener as well as extensions. I felt like a new person.

Jill13, mine was enourmously thick also, but was pretty. I am starting back on chemo in two months and the oncologist said I will lose my hair again. I'm wondering if it will be the same experience I had last time or something different.

I still have my hats and wig so I'll just 'go with the flow'. The best I remember, it takes three or four months for it to come back and look decent. I'm going to a "Look good, Feel good" program next week, so maybe I can learn to draw on eyebrows. ha

Everyone looks better bald than they think they will. You will get lots of compliments on your short hair.

God bless every one of you going through this.

I had Bleomycin, Etoposide and Cisplatin -- began treatment on 10/8/07 and my hair started getting thin after 2 weeks and then completely fell out in clumps on Halloween.

The thing I forgot to mention...it has come back in much thicker than it was. I always had a ton of hair but now it is unbearably thick -- it reminds me of a thick Burbur (sp) carpet.

My chemo ended on 6/08 and as of today my hair has grown about 2 inches since then. My hair is also much thinner than it was pre-chemo.

I had my first chemo exactly one week ago. I got a quarter-inch buzz cut to get ready (not that big of a change for me; I usually wear my hair about a 1/2 to 3/4 inch long anyway). I'm seeing a few hairs on my pillow now, but nothing significant, so I guess my hair will start falling out big time in the next few days. For people with straight hair, after your hair came back curly how long did it take to go back to normal?

Mine also took a couple of months to really look like hair. I loved this 1 wig I had and I think I had separation anxiety over it when I finally gave it up! A friend of mine said it was time to either keep my head shaved or give up the wig! My hair was always wavy and seemed to stay that way when it grew back for acout 2 yrs. Now it is practically straight. I looked like a skunk when it grew in so I did color it and have highlights put in. The funny thing is that over time, my natural color returned (brown), but with more gray than before.

My hair fell out two weeks to the day after my first treatment of Taxol/carboplatinum. I hear that is pretty standard.

Mine was curly until I had a haircut. Now it is back to normal - fine and straight.

Has anyone tried a flat iron on their hair to straighten the curls?
