I finished my 6 rounds of chemo 3 weeks ago and had my follow up with my oncologist today. My CA 125 was 5!! I am so thrilled. Everything is looking great and I'll go back for another visit in 3 months. I asked him about port removal and he said it is up to me. When did most of you have your ports removed?

God does hear our prayers. I pray for continued healing for all of the courageous women here! You are the most awesome brave women I know!

Hi, Lisa...that is such great news!

I just had my checkup last Thursday...am doing fantastic my onc said and don't have to be back for 4 months now...I still have my port :( He originally said a year since my last chemo which will be next month...he asked me if it bothers me, and I told him no (because it doesn't bother me!)...but then he said "Okay, when you come back in August, we'll negotiate getting the port removed." So, I let it go...this time!

Congratulations on graduating to 4 month checkups!
I told the onc. that I will probably wait 3 months then get the port our.

That is wonderful news!!!! Congratulations! I think it depends on the stage you had and what your oncologist says. I am Stage III3C and was told leave it in a year after chemo and good CA125/ct results indicating remission. If no recurrence, then consider getting it out. If you are an earlier stage, your chance of recurrence is slim to none and in that case, you could get it out right away.

I was Stage IIC. I am thinking getting the port out this summer.

Its wonderful to share in your good news! Here's hoping that 5 is your lucky number and it stays there!! Congratulations - celebrate!

Kristin

So glad things are going well for you!

That is wonderful news. Celebrate!!!

I have been cancer free for 2 years now. I still visit my oncologist every 2 months and my CA125 is at 7. I had my port taken out fairly soon after completing my 8th round of chemo. My cancer was at stage 2C. Congratulations on doing so well.

Thats wonderful news, I know you're so happy right now. God bless you!

Congratulations! I was IIIa and I left it in for almost 3 years. I miss it when I have to go for my CT scan. I don't care for IV needles too much.

What wonderful news! Hope you stay at that level forever!!

I still have both IV and IP ports -- two years after the end of my chemo. I'll probably have the IP port removed soon because it's been bothering me. I'm waiting (today) to hear my latest CA-125 results. It rose last month. If there's nothing showing up on CA-125 and a CT scan, then I may have the IV port removed. But I'm not eager. If the cancer should come back, I like knowing I have the port.

That's wonderful news! It's always nice to read a good post! Best wishes!

I had my port removed about 3 weeks ago. I waited 16 months past chemo. My CA125 had risen from its low of 16 to 18, then stayed there.

My port no longer returned blood, so I figured we'd have to run extensive tests and possibly put in a new one if I needed it again. I've enjoyed losing that lump although the internal stitches really itch! Removal took about 20 minutes and was done with a local anesthetic. I never took any pain meds, although I probably could have used a tylenol the first day. I didn't like taking warfarin or the idea of having a tube leading into the main vein to my heart.

Hi Lisa,

Great News!! Congratulations!!

I also just finished my last chemo....I had eight rounds.

My doctor said that if the cancer came back, I am stage
IIIc we would never use the abdominal port again so
why not take out the chest port too while we are at
it.....

He is optimistic and anxious to get the ports out asap..

They can cause infection and other problems and I
have to be on blood thinners also as there is potential
for blood clots....

I am scheduling my surgery for May.... and moving
optimistically forward with my healing....

All Best to you.....
