Hello Kathy, When I was going through cancer treatments, my insurance took care of most everything. My biggest costs were my rent and general bills. The good thing was, I had alot of sick time, vacation time and personal days and it all added up to 5 months. I was still getting a paycheck, but, I still had to pay the insurance premiums and if you go over the time period of three months, (I took 4 months), you have to pay a huge payment. The last premium was $337. I had to pick up my prescriptions and pay a co-payment, depending on how much the presciptions cost. I was on Lovenox shots and for a 14 days supply, it was $50. Lovenox is for blood clots. I needed Lovenox about three months, so thats $50 twice a month. When I came back to work, all my time was used up and I had to get into my retirement account a couple of times to pay the rent
Where I work, we get no benefits and if you don't work, you don't get paid. So I have no sick or vacation time to fall back on. I've applied for Medicaid and have this marvelous social worker helping me. She's been terrific and so understanding. So I'm hopeful that Medicaid will work out.
Thanks for responding ... it's nice to know I'm not alone!
