feeling overwhelmed......

Hello everyone:
I was diagnosed in october with cancer unknown prime ( most likely in the gyne location due to the biopsy) My symtom was enlarged inguinal lymph nodes. I had 6 rounds of chemo and the original
site was gone due to showing of a P.E.T. scan.
Which was wonderful news....plus I had surgury to remove the inguinal nodes. I am now scheduled for radiation (more wide spread)
to hit other nodes that may be affected..and this is
where I am feeling so afraid...its decision time do
I take treatment for 5 weeks or play a wait and see.

The radiation they told me will be hitting some of my
organs which frightens me...has anyone else out there
had this time of decision to make...

Feeling scared..

Kels.

Kels.....I am right there with you girl! I have one doc recommending radiation for peri-aortic lymph nodes, and he says it is safe because it won't hit kidneys and liver but he didn't say anything about bone marrow. Another doc says NO radiation because it will affect my bone marrow which will compromise future chemo but he didn't say anything about kidneys and liver!
My original Onc said no radiation because it will mess up small bowel!
So who the hell knows the right answer for ANYTHING with this disease.........!!!

Kels and Jeanjet,

I am so sorry about the decisions you are facing.

I wish I could think of a specific way of offering comfort.

Blessings.

Hi Kels,

You are facing a tough decision and it really sounds like you need more information before you can really make an informed decision about what to do. I would ask your primary cancer doctor about how aggressive your cancer is, does it grow fast or is it usually slow growing? How often will scans be ordered to monitor the status of your cancer? Also find out just what organs will be in the radiation field and how might they be affected? What other options are there for treatment?

Good luck on your decision. Please keep us up to date on what you find out and what decision you make.
You are in my thoughts and prayers. Eileen
