Dog at My Feet, Kitten on my Shoulder, Surgery on Tuesday

I wonder if my critters know something I don't know. Hmm... Maggie Mae (my little girl for years now my 'Old Lady') has been sticking pretty close lately.

The new Kitten crawls up the back of the computer chair, steps ONE paw onto my shoulder, starts purring very loudly and plops herself on my shoulder.
It's too cute! After a few minutes she's like 'Freda's' cat on Charlie Brown... just a big limp noodle hanging over my shoulder!!

Both are sticking very close.

Do you think they actually KNOW somehow?
This isn't the first time the dog has done this. She's stuck pretty close all these years when I'm sick or feeling bad.

Any similar stories?

I cracked up when I was your new photo. That must be the Old Lady! My dog is the same way. They say dogs can be trained to detect ovarian cancer. Too bad they can't talk... I would have probably known a lot sooner!

Good luck on Tuesday. I send you a little something. Hope it makes you smile.

I don't think 'too bad they can't talk'

I think THANK GOD they can't talk!

Or Maggie would have told me YEARS ago Just how bad I really DO look in a swim suit! LOL

My dog acted wierd both times for about a week before I found out I had cancer/recurrance. She's a smart one and I knew that she knew something....

I try not to put too much stock in how she's acting these days because I don't want her to act weird because I'm acting weird :) Making it a circular process instead of a warning system :)

She's another creature God definitely put in my life for a reason.

Brown_Eyes,

It's so easy to over analyze everything when your kind of desparate. I am SURE God puts 'critters' in our lives for a reason. I'm just worried that Maggie Mae will say to me in Heaven one day...

"You mean there wasn't REALLY a squirrel in the back yard when you said there was all those times"?

By the way... My dog's name is:

Maggie Mae Suzanne Yvette Kicked-in-the-Butt-by-Love Strong.

:) Would you expect anything less from me/ us?

~Kibbie

Oh, I definitely think that our furry children who know us well can tell when something is up. Don't forget that there is experimentation going on with dogs sniffing out breast cancer.

Kibbie, even though you have sung this song before, I would guess that your babies are picking up on some level of anxiety from you. I think they sense you need them.

My now late but dear cat Melanie used to sit on my sewing machine..."helping", I'm sure..and if I were crying she would lean over and lick my tears. Another time hubby was massaging my back where I had pulled a muscle. She came running into the bedroom, leaped on the bed and curled up on my low back, right where it hurt. I think she was "protecting" me because I was groaning and she knew something was wrong.

I know that my cats always make me smile. My poor hubby puts up with so many only because of that, I'm sure.

I know that cats are very intuitive! They probably know something is up. Sounds like your Melanie was very special. It's amazing how they know. We have 2 cats, a kitten and a dog. Husband says we are 'At Maximum Critter Capacity' so I guess that means I'm done! LOL

How many do you have?

~Kibbie

I think they know something is up. My petite tortise shell Gabby stuck close to me after I found out I was going to have surgery. The other two cats, Pauly and Alafair, carried on like they usually did. Gabby would always lay on my tummy before I found out I had a tumor in there. I guess she thought it was a pillow. She doesn't do it anymore. I sometimes think she knew there was a tumor and that was her way of telling me something was amiss. But it could be that my stomach lacks the Lazy-Boy comfort she used to enjoy.

My beagle has not tried to sit in my lap since he was a puppy. The day my sister died, five years later, I cam home after finding out and sat down in my husband's lap. Cutie instantly jumped up and sat on my lap and stayed there.

Our other dog, Ink, was an abused stray. He lets you pet him only as long as he is comfortable, but every night he wants to lick my feet, or hands, if my feet aren't available for five or ten minutes. We think it's his "comfort food." During chemo, he'd sit by me, but he never licked me. I think he could taste the drugs. When he started licking me, I knew most of the chemo drugs were out of my system.

Our animals love us unconditionally. What a blessing they are!

Verlinda,

I'm very sorry to hear of your sisters passing.

My dog licks my feet too. UNLESS I have toe nail polish on. Then she wants NO PART of it! LOL

My Dad and Aunt think it's really gross. BUT... When Maggie was small I was talking to her and I said 'I pet you and pet you all day! That's all you want! I'm going to end up rubbing your fur off! Why don't you ever pet me"?
My husband said 'She does.. when she licks you' ahhh! I never thought of it that way!

I have no pet stories. Sending you healing thought and prayers! (((HUGS)))

Awww.. Thanks Ovacom06! Very nice of you! :)

Best wishes and prayers for successful surgery and may Maggie lick all kinds of healing into you! Mary

LOVe my critters. And yes, they do instinctively know when things are awry. My max (lhasa) was all over me before my diagnosis to the point of almost annoying me. When I came home from the hospital after the first surgery he never left my side. For the first few minutes I was home he growled at anyone that came near me. It took about an hour for him to get over this and then stayed by my side until I was back to work. I was really shocked at the growling part. Our rabbit foo foo was a little more loving as well - Lola (the hamster) did not seem to change much but I still am her favorite. The other two are water beasts and although they come to teh glass when I walk anywhere near them they are hard to read. My dog was the most changed.
I truly believe that they sense these things and become protective of their humans.
My prayers that your surgery went well and you are soon home with your critters.
Melissa
