DO Something!

Okay ladies (and gentlemen). Today is the day we need to DO something for ovarian cancer. There has been a lot of discussion in the past month or two about awareness and yes a lot of complaining about the money going to breast cancer research. As our elected officials are voting on where the money goes it is extremely important that we let them know we support and expect their support in funding ovarian cancer research.

Call or e-mail your congress and senate representatives and encourage their support of funding of the DOD Ovarian Cancer Research Program.

Don't know what to say? Here's a link to the Society of Gyn/Oncologist website where you can simply put in your zip code and it will pull up the email addresses of your representatives. All you need to do is edit the letter a little, fill out the form with your info and click to send.

Don't wait... this is vital money for important research on new treatments and diagnostic tools.

Excellent idea - thanks for forwarding this. I just sent mine in. It was very simple for anyone wanting to do it.

Done, I sent it to 20 friends. Lets see if NJ steps up.
TYVM for the link

Great Point!

I have stage II uterine and stage I ovarian, grade 1 cancer.

I was told today by my gyno oncologist that "You WILL be cured."

This is possible BECAUSE the cancer was found very early.

Research to find a way to detect women's cancer early IS the cure.

In addition to contacting representatives, let's ask charitable organizations to give more to ovarian cancer early detection research.

Done! It was very simple!

Just sent mine and emailed my friends, family members and co-workers. Thanks for the heads up lifeisgrand. Turning this whisper into a SHOUT!

Thanks for the info! I just sent mine in too, it was very easy :)

I just sent mine too. Thanks for the info!

As a result of the Senate mark-up, the Department of Defense’s Ovarian Cancer Research Program’s funding has been slashed in half – from $20 million to $10 million. Research performed by this program is critical as it is solely dedicated to performing research about ovarian cancer.

Breast cancer is getting $150 Million
Prostate cancer is getting $80 Million

Ovarian cancer... they had requested $25 million (last year got an increase from $10M to $20M but this year have cut that back to $10M)

If there are only 8 people on this site willing to take a minute to contact their representatives then what hope do we have?

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. It only takes a few minutes to do this. I sent it to six others and asked them all to do it and then send to six others as well! We need to stop worrying about pink and put all of our positive thoughts and energies into our cancer.

Just did it. I also went to my senators office a few months ago with our story

Now that's what I'm talking about!

Got it done, will also ask all the women I know in my life to send this as well.

lifeisgrand...you are the best. You are so well informed and well spoken. I just sent mine in too.
Always look forward to reading your posts.

Thank you for this! I have sent mine out and sent it to EVERYONE in my address book....We will be heard!

Thank you for this link.
I sent mine out.

HELP!!

It is asking me for a 4 digit Zip code in addition to the regular 5 ddigit zip code. What does that mean. It will not sent my letter without the 4 digits.

Thanks for those who contacted their representatives. Here's what we for those efforts.

As a result of OCNA’s advocacy efforts, 14 Senators and 77 Representatives showed their opposition to the funding cut by signing a Dear Colleague letter sent to the Subcommittee Tuesday, November 3, 2009.

The Dear Colleague letter, written by Senator Robert Menendez (D-NJ) and Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (D-CT), requested that the Subcommittee allocate the $25 million set forth in the U.S. House of Representatives‘ version of the Defense bill, and not the $10 million outlined in the U.S. Senate version of the bill. The Senate funding level represented a 50 percent reduction from the $20 million appropriated in fiscal year (FY) 2009.

The date of the conference subcommittee meeting has yet to be announced.
