Consuming Alcohol while on Taxol/carbo

0 Recommendations

I was wondering if any of you had advice about drinking alcohol while receiving treatment. Before everything...I enjoyed a glass (or 2) of wine with dinner. I Just had my first treatment on Thursday and I am feeling pretty good- is it okay to drink a little???

Don't know if it is "ok" but I did.

I haven't but my Dr's office told me occasional is fine, just not to go get trashed :) My brother is an ER nurse and he said an occasional drink is fine but more than that is going to stress the liver, which is already stressed from chemo.... So I haven't, just to be safe.

I don't drink at all but wish sometimes I did. I am thrilled for you that you feel well enough to even consider a drink while on Taxol/Carbo. I was so nauseated I could barely drink water. Good for you! A toast to you beating this disease!

My wife's Doc said sure.

I didnt drink for the longest but now have about 3 oz red wine nightly at dinner, an occasional glass when out, one beer and one margarita about a month ago that made me buzz. I think a little if your liver is okay is fine.

Lately I think that if I get a recurrence and it looks grim, I may take up smoking again,,haven't smoked in 25 years but I so loved cigs and if I am deemed to be doomed, I may take up the habit.

My doc said the same thing...in moderation. My first post surgery drink after I began chemo was an Apple-tini at my neighbors house. Not my favorite drink, but wow.....did that taste GREAT!
But I have had different drinks while on chemo and all was fine.
Hope all goes well, and a 'toast' to you!

My oncologist told me to go ahead and enjoy a glass of wine or two......I usually didn't feel well enough until at least two weeks post chemo - and would then if I got together with friends, etc. Not a lot - one or two glasses.......as I was also concerned with stressing the liver (plus imagined feeling hungover while on chemo would be REALLY HORRIBLE ha)......but it sure felt good to sip a glass of wine and feel somewhat "normal" again...........

I found that during chemo red wine would give me an automatic headache, but that white wine was ok..........

Cheers!

Amy

unfortunately I can't because of bad liver mets.I would really LOVE a cocktail but opt for something to smoke when my friends are drinking.
Cheers!

I was never told no to a drink, but I am on numerous meds so I have to work around them or skip a dose if I really want to enjoy a glass of wine or beer.

I asked my doc before starting chemo and he said if you feel like a drink have a drink. I drank occasionally thru out treatments. I did not drink the first week after chemo because I was worried about all the drugs I was on for sickness and leg pain. But I say if you feel like a drink there should be no harm of having 1 or 2. Good Luck with the rest of your treatments.

I was also on the same chemo meds as you

Thanks for all the feedback...had a glass tonight and I feel good. Thanks again and cheers to you all!

I enjoyed an occaisonal glass of wine during carbo/taxol txs. Bottoms up!

I asked my doctor at the start of chemo and he said as long as it was a GOOD wine - said with a smile and a wink so I took him at his word and enjoyed wine with dinner or out as long as I was feeling like it. Best wishes!

I dont recommend any alcohol while on chemo...because it should be a time of healing and resting, but I am only a med student, so not an NP yet, but if its good wine and a glass, what the hey. i craved cheeseburgers when on chemo.

Quality of life issues are key, without wine my quality would plummet!

My GYN Oncology Surgeon said "NO" alcohol because the liver is dealing with enough during chemo, BUT my Oncologist said a drink here or there will not hurt! So during holidays, vacation or with friends I drink some! There are those days I wish I drank ALOT. DANG DISEASE! We can not stop living life, but we need to be aware that our bodies need special care!

keep in mind that chemo is processed by the liver.
Alcohol is also processed by the liver...you need
your liver to get through the treatment process,
why compromise the process...it is within your
control...

My doc said one or two margaritas on my "good" week would be fine. That is the week after I have had treatment on day 1 and 2 and day 8. Usually around day 12 or 13 I may have a margarita with dinner. The salt is really satisfying!

Everyone's answers amuse me.

I can't drink hard liquor,,discovered my tolerance is really low. But a couple oz of a good cabernet is just nice.
