Consolidation Therapy for 20 somethings

0 Recommendations

I am 28 years old and was recently diagnosed with Stage IIIc ovarian cancer. I had a total hysterectomy and all visible cancer cells were removed during surgery. I will be beginning my third round of chemo on Monday and am beginning to look for options after treatment. I have talked with my doctor about clinical trials for consolidation therapy and we have not yet found any where the benefits outweigh the risks for someone my age. Has anyone heard of any consolidation therapy for us younger crowd? Thank you!

Hi!
Have you checked the Hospital of the Univ. of PA and their clinical trials? You might benefit from it. I'm older than you but just tossing some info around.

Hi,

First of all, I am so sorry you are so young and are dealing with this. I am glad you are on this site. I also have stage iiic, had carbo/taxol. Finished in April. Recurrence in February 09. I'm on a clinical trial now. The drug is Erubulin and I had a scan yesterday to find out if it's working. Won't know till midweek. I go to Dana Farber in Boston so they have clinical trials. I was told some women stay on this for maintenance if it's working. Please let me know if you want to talk further or need any other information, or support. I have a son your age. Good luck to you.

I am finishing 9 rounds of carbo/taxol, stage 3C, good debulking.

My onc is suggesting weekly taxol for 24 weeks say8ng it increases disease free interval but does not know if it increases survival time. It is easy I hear.

I have wondered about other consolidations or maintenances,,someone here is on Avastin for a year. THat sounded promising.

THere is a stage 3 trial, mimosa I think, that is using the vaccine after one finishes initial chem and is said to have no disease. But to do it, you cannot do any other maintenance. It is very tempting.
