Coffee

Hi All,
Just wondering, is coffee bad for us?
I love to have a cup in the morning and sometimes two. Do you think it is unhealthy or will contribute to a recurrance? I'm doing my best to eat well, but I look forward to a cup of coffee each day. What do you think?

I've read a fair amount about coffee and whether it is good or bad for you. It actually does have some health benefits. I vaguely remember--you can google this and check--that it reduces your risk of Parkinson's Disease and perhaps diabetes? In other words, it does appear to have some health benefits. On the other hand, caffeine is not good for your bone density, and those of us who have had our ovaries removed often have worse bone density problems than women who go through natural menopause. I am not sure, though, that one or two cups a day is enough to give you either the beneficial effects or the detrimental effects.

I think if you enjoy it you should have it, especially if it's only one or two cups a day.

I've heard pros and cons on coffee.

When I was pregnant 18 yrs ago, the smell of coffee made me so sick I avoided it whenever I could.

In the past two years or so I'd have a half cup occasionally. Although I'm an advid tea drinker, I'll have some coffee once in a while. I prefer coffee substitute CAFIX http://www.cafix.com/.
It really tastes like coffee and the ingredients are natural.

But if you prefer the real cup of Joe, In my opinion, have it.

I say if you want something, have it. I don't think that there is anything yu can do to either make it stay away OR come back.... But that's just my opinion

There have been reports in the British media stating that three or more cups of strong coffee can reduce your risk of ovarian cancer. I`m not sure whether that is caffeine free coffee but I now drink at least three cups of the stuff each day, even though I denerally find it quite ghastly! It dosn`t seem to be doing any harm anyway!

I have to admit that I drink a couple of cups of coffee each day and a latte to get some calcium from the milk.
Even though it has a tendency to be acidic, there are certain benefits to coffee. I use raw sugar in mine
instead of refined sugar.
Do what makes you happy.....after all part of being healthy is that feeling of well being and if coffee makes you feel good, do it.

There is nothing wrong with having a cup or two of coffee. I'm having mine right now.

The only time anything is bad for you is when it is consumed in great quantity, even when it is supposed to be "good" for you. I don't think there is anything you can do to prevent a recurrence - if there was, every doctor would know, we'd all know, and no one would have them.

Enjoy your morning coffee!

One day coffee is bad, one day it is good. I would not worry about drinking a cup or two every day. Continue enjoying it.

katelynsmamaw Favorite Aunt Could not agree with you more here. I drink and LOVE black coffee , no sugar no nothing , and prefer the flavored coffee, I love dunkin donuts cinnamon coffee. I say too its not going to hurt you, I drink 3 12 ounce cups a day , and aside if your ultra senstive to the caffinee and get a rapid heartbeat then no I would not worry.

I like my coffee black and strong. I remember my mother saying if the spoon in the coffee stands up straight, the coffee is strong enought. Oh well, I say if you enjoy your coffee, have some.

I drink 2 cups of strong black coffee every morning. My chemo nurse tells me the hot liquid in the morning gets the digestive tract going. She also recommended warm prune juice......not on your life! I want to enjoy life to the fullest, live each day as if it were my last, and be happy. I try to eat right, but sometimes a big thick steak is needed. Be blessed!

I LOVE my coffee and would hate to give it up!!! The way I look at it is this: some people do coffee enemas every day as a way to prevent reoccurrence -- I do the same, I just start it from the other end! :) I'm not trying to mock anyone who chooses to follow that protocol - really, coffee just makes me happy - enjoying a decaf cup now after a long walk in the brisk New England air!!

Dear Friends,
Thank you for your input! it's nice to know there are others like me enjoying a cup or two of coffee. Sometimes I think it is my anti depressant of the morning. It helps me get moving and feeling good about the day to come.
Thank you,
Ell

Glad to hear we are still allowed to enjoy a cup in the morning :). I like mine with cream. No sugar. No flavor. Yummy.

Cheryl... Cinnamon adds a nice flavor to the coffee and is supposed to be good for a lot of things like helping to regulate our blood sugar. I used to sprinkle cinnamon on the top of the coffee grounds and it comes out really tasty without buying specially flavored coffees.

I will drink my black coffee every morning for the rest of my life. Life is not worth living without at least four cups of coffee while I read the paper. I mix it half real/half decaf just so I can have more coffee. Sometimes I have a cookie with my first cup! We have to live for the little joys in life! Drink up!!!!!!!

hi i life is to short not to enjoy the things you want so drink your coffee i drink 2 pots a day and i enjoy each cup because it may be the last!!!

Agree with all :-)
I LOVE my coffee so much that I know I drink too much, drink it all day and when I can afford it......a Quad Venti Mocha from Starbucks (4 shots in a 20oz). When going into Chemo I'd go straight to Dunkin Donuts and get a large with 1 cream and sip on it for hours.........Enjoy!

I recently read some research that says coffee is good for the immune system, just don't overdo the caffeine. I would be lost without my morning coffee. I do half-caff with heavy cream and no sugar.
