Clinical trial GDC-o449

1 Recommendation

Hi All-
I was first dx.'d in May 2005-and had my first recurrence in July of 2008. I was asked to take part in this drug trial and am on my second month of taking this drug (or maybe a placebo-it's a double blind study) I was wondering if anyone on this board is also in this study-I was wondering about side effects etc. Thanks! What kind of drug is it?

Side effects are nice to let you know you aren't on placebo.

Hi- just got your reply to my questions--I went to my oncologist for my monthly check on the drug trial Thursday. It has now been 3 months since I started the trial--It sounds like the same one you are considering-I am in remission after my first recurrence this past summer-I remember the possible side effects list too-my Dr. explained that this is a phase 2 trial and during the phase 1 part only a few people received the drug--therefore any side effect was recorded as a possible since it was such a small pool of people involved. For example if someone got a headache and was in the trial-it was recorded as a possible side effect-even if it might have been just a head ache not related to the trial-I decided to go forward in spite of it-and figured I only had a 50-50 chance of getting the drug anyway since it's a double blind study and I will be monitored closely--I get checked monthly with blood work as well, and bi-monthly also have a CA125 and CT scan-(all free by the way) as part of the study--after the first month only one possible side effect--I've lost most of my sense of taste-everything tastes bland-like a matzo cracker-annoying but I can take it-and since it's the only change I've had in the past 3 months the Dr. thinks I'm probably on the drug because that is supposedly a more common side effect-and supposedly ends when the drug does-so that's my report--hope it helps you make your decision-all in all it's been ok--and the report Thursday was everything was very normal--and 'll take normal any day! Sorry this is so long--Let me know what you decide-by the way I was dx. IIIB in May of 2005 and I'm in Maine--what about you? NancyT

Your post caught my interest, as I have been looking into a trial that uses GDC-0449 - referred to as a Maintenance Therapy for patients in a Second or Third Remission. Is this the same trial that you're on? I noticed the consent form has a very long list of "very likely" side effects. (sounds worse than chemo) When I questioned the study nurse on this she was not very helpful - perhaps the long list is simply legal cover? I would be very interested to know how this is going
for you, both in terms of side effects and also what's happening with your CA125 and any other monitoring.
I hope it goes very well for you, as I understand that this drug may be a great breakthrough.
All the best
