Canadian OVCA Awareness ~ We need to Get the Word OUT

0 Recommendations

Good Morning
AS the months have gone by since my diagnosis, and I now wear a Teal Ribbon
(I painted a pink one TEAL) LOL
and from the comments and discussion opportunities that I ahve had at the check outs at stores, I have observed that OVCA is not well known here in Eastern Canada.....
I am wondering about doing some advocay, and Awareness Here....
I started making jewllery and will be renting a table at my local mall..
I want to have information sheets there available to put into every bag... for sales... :D
and....
50% of sales from my OVA Teal Earrings; I plan to donate for research for a cure here.

Any other Canadian Gals? want to Brai storm with me on this?

Hope so
till we talk.....
Blessings to each one of you, Strength
one day at a time...

Hey! I am from NW Ontario - go to Winnipeg for my treatments. One thing that we do have in Canada - though maybe you already know this - is the Winners Walk of Hope for Ovarian Cancer- this year on September 13th - and it is in I think 16 major cities across Canada. I am putting a team into the one in Winnipeg. You can also have virtual walkers and teams. The link is: http://www.winnerswalkofhope.ca/index.htm

I also have a web page where I post journal entries, informative ovca sites or YouTube videos, and signs and symptoms of ovca. It is mostly friends and family that access this page - but they send on to more friends and family - and I have had almost 4000 visits to the site since January.......one way to spread the word. I do this thru CaringBridge.org.

Hope this helps.............

Take care,

Amy

I painted my toenails teal and everyone asks me why. I tell them it is for ovarian cancer awareness. I live in Florida for five winter months so people see them.

Hi AJ
I grew up in Winnipeg....
thanks for the info...
and link....
& I also use Caring Bridgfe to journal, for family & friends 2

While not in Canada, I'm just across the Detroit River and "can see you (almost) from my house!" Let me know in which mall you plan to sell your earrings and I'll stop by.

BTW, Karmanos CA Institute has their 4th Annual Gynecologic Oncology Seminar on Sat., April 18 and there's a wonderful support group which meets at Beaumont Hospital. Lastly, I receive treatment at Henry Ford Hospital and we might hook up at some point.

After saying all of this, I was just assuming you were somewhere near Detroit. You may be in Toronto or near there??? We also have a cottage on Lake Erie near Port Stanley. So keep me posted on those earrings!

Hugs, Kathleen

hey Kathleen
you share a beautiful name with one of my daughters!
....
We actually are in Nova Scotia.... definately not close to TO **LOL*
good to hear that there is something going on

Is that in CANADA ?

thanks for your note

When I told my husband of your message, he doubted you were in Ontario. So right, eh?

No, the program mentioned is not in CA but in Detroit. I am planning to attend and will share info not already shared here.

Wishing you all the best!

There is actually an event going on in Toronto in June 2010. The 8th Annual Celebrate the Women in our Lives Gala. Here's the link:
http://www.ovariancanada.org/index.asp?navid=166&csid1=91

They're actually looking for volunteers to help out. I know you're from Halifax so it's probably out of the question for you but if anyone from the Toronto area is interested then check out the link :)
