bowel obstruction

0 Recommendations

I was wondering if anyone has had a bowel obstruction with their Ovarian Masses??? I had one when first diagnosed and now I am feeling that same way as I did. Vomiting, constipation, weight loss , abdominal pain when I eat. If anyone has experienced signs and symtoms like those I have mentioned did you ultimately have a bowel obstruction??? I am worried. I have lost over ten pounds in a matter of weeks. Just had a paracentesis done three weeks ago for ascites also. I appreciate anyone with feedback to write me. annejulia.....

Annejulia, I am sorry to hear you are having problems. I do hope you have made your gyn/onc aware of these most recent symptoms.

I have no personal experience that would help, but I did want to wish you well. I hope you get some relief soon.

I think CAT scan test in OVC also map that info
they report on that too

I was diagnosed in Feb. 2008 and finished treatment in Sept. 2008. In Feb. 2009 I started having abdominal pain and throwing up. At first the doctor brushed it off as the flu but it continued so they did a CA-125 followed by a CT scan which showed a recurrance on my small bowel and a partial bowel obstruction. I would advise you to see your doctor and get a CT scan. Good luck.

Please call me! i have had 3 obstructions only one due to Cancer. they are painful and i just want to stress to make sure you know your body! they took my gak bladder over an obstruction and it took 4ever to heal.

I'm sorry you are feeling so lousy. If you haven't contacted your doc, do so. I've had 3 obstructions but all were due to a hernias. I almost let one go too long and got into serious trouble. I wish you the best.

Just watch them blaming the bowel obstructions on your gall bladder!!!

Dear AnneJule

I have OVCA and have had a partial bowel obstruction. Mine was do to a hernia which has since been repaired. If you had abdominal surgery to remove your cancer, you may have developed adhesions (scar tissue) which can interfere with your intestines and bowel. This could potentially lead to a partial bowel obstruction. I personally take about three different things on a daily basis to prevent constipation build up.

Thank you all for your thoughtful responses.... I have a call in to my Oncologist and I am waiting for a return call. I believe a catscan is in order ....... If I had Xray vision this would be a lot easier but it shouldn't be brushed under the rug. Something is wrong I just know it. I have learned to know my body. Last surgery was in 2008 and there is a possibility it could be adhesions . I will keep you informed. annejulia

HI ANNEJULIA-
I ALSO HAVE HAD AN OBSTRUCTION LAST NOVEMBER. I COULD NOT EAT ANYTHING WITHOUT THROWING UP. AS SOON AS I DID THE PAIN WENT AWAY COMPLETELY. I HAD A LOWER GI SCAN AND THEY FOUND AN OBSTUCTION IN MY LOWER INTENSTINE WHICH COULD HAVE BEEN CAUSED BY SCAR TISSUE, OR MORE LIKELY A TUMOR GROWING. MY DR. RESTRICTED ME TO LIQUIDS ONLY UNTIL A FEW ROUNDS OF CHEMO, AND SURE ENOUGH IT SHRUNK DOWN ENOUGH TO GO AWAY COMPLETELY, AND IN A MONTH OR SO, I COULD EAT ANYTHING I WANTED. IT IS A TERRIBLE FEELING AND I URGE YOU TO GO GET A LOWER GI SCAN, AND STAY ON LIQUIDS FOR AWHILE. GOOD LUCK-ENERGYGIRL

This is the first time I recall anyone mentioning their hernias. I have an abdominal hernia that I can see plainly protruding just to the left of my incision. A couple of doctors have felt it and are not concerned. The radiologist mentions it in every CT scan report, calling it "small." But having had an ileus (intestinal shutdown), I am wary of the idea that my hernia could cause a bowel obstruction. Is there anything that can be done short of surgery? What kind of surgery does the hernia "repair" consist of?

Hi,

Yes, I am familiar with bowel obstructions. I had surgery for fallopian tube cancer iiiC and eight months later I had terrible stomach/abdominal pain. I called my oncologist and she told me to use a heating pad, that I probably had the flu. I just couldn't get comfortable and was doubled over. My husband took me to the hospital where I began vomiting. I had a CT scan and it showed a total bowel obstruction. I had emergency surgery and was in the hospital for three weeks because my bowels would not "wake up." A couple of months ago, I was in the hospital again for a partial bowel obstruction. They did not want to do surgery because of my adhesions. I felt just as bad when I left the hospital as when I went in. Finally, my doctor prescribed a precription laxative, and it worked. Now I don't even need to take it all the time. I'm here if you need to talk. Good luck.

It sounds as if I may need the catscan to see what is going on. I am scheduled for chemo on Friday.....Doxil. I think it is the tumor growing because the last chemo I had, which was carboplatin, my body rejected and it was not keeping the ascites down in the abdomen either. I had IV benedryl right away when my body reacted to the chemo as an allergen. This cancer world we all are enduring is filled with wondering and a lot of uncertainties. Thanks for all your help. It is so much appreciated. annejulia

I had a hysterectomy to remove my 11x12x14 cm cyst and tumors. I was doing a raw vegan diet for about 10wks as soon as I added bread and such back into my diet I was able to feel a lump sometimes the size of a golf ball sometimes the size of a baseball- turns out I have a hernia right on the right side of my scar- why do so many of us have hernias? It is so painful about an hour after I ear- I'm having to take something everyday and go back to my ph miracle diet just to feel better.

Gosh.......there are so many things it could be, but my symptoms sound so much like yours. After eating it feels like there is a fist in my abdomen.....and it is painful to say the least. I have a doc appt. this Friday and hopefully I will get some answers . I can't live like this. I have had four major abdominal surgeries, the last being in 2008. annejulia

I hope its something minor! I just had a CT scan and thgey found two surgical clips in my right and left intestine?? Does anyone have anything like this?
