Borderline to carcinoma...

0 Recommendations

Hi Ladies,

So I had suregry last Tuesday to remove what the Dr thought was a recurrant tumour on my left remaining ovary, he was also planning to remove th ovary... however someone must be smiling upon me as it turned out to be an adhesion so they drained it and i got to keep my ovary!! they did however find new implants on my uterus, I have had pathology results and these are coming back as bordeline as was my initial diagnosis...

the Dr is reviewing my case with his collegues today and then will speak to two fertility Dr's re my situaution to see what can be done about having a baby... I previously saw a fert Dr when I had the adhesion identified and he did not want to do any ivf with the risk of spreading what they thought was a tumor, also I have displayed some menopausal symptoms so he is not sure my ovary is functioning.

My onc is expressing concern... he as told me the recurring implants means the cells are continuing to divide and grow on my uterus and he is concerned these will become a full carcinoma at some stage, he has told me they will most likely continue to recurr until we remove the uterus...

so I have no idea what to do... has anyone else had their Onc express such concern??

Hi Sandiestar,
I am so happy for you! now you have more options!
It sounds like your Onc is really on top of things...you are in good hands
What are implants? are they small tumors? are they on the outside or inside of your uterus? so they did not show up in you ultrasound or CT?

hi Rai,

thanks! yes options is what we are all about at the moment!

the implants are small tumors usually only a few millimeters ... they are on the outside of my uterus, I had these the first time I underwent surgery and they burnt them off, they have again burnt these ones off too. My onc says they are not generally able to get them all due to the size of them... though they do get all the ones they can see ... my onc has told me they are very slow growing and due to the size they do not show up on the scans I have been having done... although I only managed to make it to my first scan post op before I was back in for my 2nd surgery... it all just seems up in the air again!!

Hi Sandiestar,

If I didn't misunderstand, you stated your initial diagnosis was borderline Ovca - right? What kind of Ovca were you diagnosed with? My doc said mine is sometimes considered boderline as well.

Best of luck to you!

Hi Kwest,

I was dx with stage 3A borderline papillary serous carcinoma... there was no sign of invasivness so therefore borderline... very lucky!

what about you??

thanks for the well wishes!

I also had borderline (atypical proliferating serous tumor) Stage 1A. Had a total hysterectomy and oopherectomy -- in other words, everything came out.

Are you certain you have papillary serous carcinoma? From what I've read, that's not a borderline condition (it's cancer). Could you have micropapillary serous carcinoma? That's the one that most doctors don't classify as borderline anymore (see the Johns Hopkins site) although it is a low-grade cancer, not an aggressive cancer. That would explain the invasive implants.

If you do have MPSC, there are a couple of women on the MedHelp site who are dealing with it right now, including some who still want to have children.

Good luckQ

Hi Cat,

I have non invasive implants so this puts me ina bordeline case, the pathology from the recent implants biopsied say I have pockets of micropapillary serous carcinoma with no invasion.

the first report I had from my intial surgery came back as low grade bordeline (poliferating) serous tumor: and a whole lot of other things too!!

I am alomost beyond trying to work it all out... all I know is my onc is adament it is borderline!

thanks :)

I look on this as a good prognosis, although a pain in the a**. A lot to deal with when you're young and still want a family.

Good luck. Sounds like your doctors have know what they're doing!
