Anxious after mammogram

0 Recommendations

Its been a while since I've felt this anxious. I had my 1st mammogram last Tuesday. Wasn't at all what I thought it would. It was a little uncomfortable. However- the technician told me that the radiologist would review the pics and then send them to my Ongologist. But she also said that if the pics looked normal, I'd receive a letter from them stating that. And of course if the tests didn't come out correct, they would forward the info to my doctor. Well its been 5 days and I haven't received anything in the mail and its driving me crazy. I'm a Ovarian cancer survivor and my head is spinning with "what if's....". Does anyone have any insite on this? Has anyone experienced OC and then been diagnosed with Breast Cancer? Are the two common with each other. I may be over reacting and I hope I am but I do not want to be blind sighted when I have to go back to my doctor. By the way- I already have an appt with my ONG Oct 20th. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated

Are you BRCA positive? The 2 cancers would be more common together if you have the mutation.

Try to be as patient as you can.....it usually takes a good 7 business days or more to get my letter. If you had the mammogram on Tuesday, I don't think you should expect the letter until this coming Tuesday at the earliest. Yes, it has been 5 days, but that includes a weekend. From having had many CT scans, I know that unless it is an emergency, radiologists don't read scans immediately.

Mammograms ARE uncomfortable, so that is a normal feeling.

Usually no word is a good sign. If they find something, most radiologists call the doctor right away and then the doctor calls you. At least that was my experience when working for a doctor.

I think you are getting a little ahead of yourself. Usually if something needs to be re-checked, they call you right away to come back for a repeat. Even then it is often a shadow or some such thing and the repeat mammo shows nothing. It takes a while for them to mail the results so you might not get them for a couple of weeks but your doctor should have them by the time you go.

There is a connection between ovca and breast cancer, but that does not mean you will get one if you have the other. Anyone with ovca should be sure to get an annual mammo to stay on top of things. Your doctor should be able to tell you what you need to know. Meantime, try to calm down a little!

I recently had to have a mammogram early (I'm 34) due to an enlarged lymphnode under my arm. It was way over a week before I got my "you're good" letter from the radiologist. My sister is an LPN, and she told me that usually if something shows up, someone is usually back with you that day.

Thanks everyone. I'm not going to let it bother me anymore now that I've heard from you all. My regular check up is tomorrow afternoon so I hope to hear the results then. I'll keep in touch!!
Stay strong!!

Well Christinem 1968 today must be your day! The 20th! I got my letter from the Radiology Center that Congrats my mammogram was positive yet the date that I had it, I have breast cancer. (I was diagnosed Stage 3 but within weeks past surgery, went to Stage 4 when they discovered a golf ball size tumor under my left arm. I told the person doing the mammogram this and she said "oh, the mammogram doesn't detect it there". So are we smarter with SELF-EXAM? I would say so. (that particular tumor has shrunk considerably since then but the Stage 4 because of it has not. I would always like to believe that no news is good news so don't beat yourself up so badly. Worry causes stress and that is something you don't need now. Good luck with your info today.
