And the winner of the post chemo joint pain contest is...........ARTHRITIS

0 Recommendations

For those who have been following the discussions about the post chemo pain that some of us have.......the MRI confirmed what the PET indicated. I have osteoarthritis in my shoulders. No Rotator Cuff tear or injury. No tendon injuries.
I can only assume that the chemo was the cause.
I will see an Ortho guy, and get PT. I believe the Ortho guy will give me a steroid shot.
So, for those of you who also have post chemo joint pain, arthritis might be the culprit.

I am so sorry to hear that you have developed osteoarthritis, but at least you now know what you are dealing with. I hope you find the right combination of treatments to feel better.

Yes, arthritis can appear as a result of chemo. I've had arthritis for years (pre-chemo) and once I got ovca my rheumatologist told me that chemo can cause arthritis. He said it is usually temporary and goes away, but it can remain. Or if you aleady have it, you can get a flare-up. His wife is a stage 3 ovca survivor and he said that she developed arthritis with chemo, but it did go away.

Do you docs say anything about taking glucosamine/chondroiton/MSM? I began taking it post chemo, and it helped reduce my inflammations.

Haven't seen the doc (Ortho) yet.

When I was getting my first chemo years ago, I still had some effects of the arthritis I had pre-chemo and I had to stop taking my arthritis meds while on chemo. On the recommendation of a chemo nurse, I took glucosamine/condroitin for several years. I can't really tell if it helped or not because the chemo can also make some arthritis discomfort go away (in addition to adding to them) and that's what happened to me.

I don't think my rheumatologist cares one way or the other if I take it. He did not suggest I take it but thought it was okay if I wanted to. I stopped taking it months ago after starting chemo again and have not noticed any difference without it. And that's pretty good because I still can't take my arthritis meds.

I really hated taking those 3 big pills every day, so I don't miss it. I'd ask the doctor what he thinks.

Hello Jeanie,
I have also developed shoulder pain after chemo.
I have been taking the supplement Glusomine/MSM/chrondrointin.For me it has worked wonders.I have been using it for a month now and my
right shoulder pain has improved to the pont I can reach for my own coffee cup [tee hee]. I use a product called Good For You .Although I can buy it here in Calgary I also know they have a web site. The supplement is High Potency. My Dr. Carlos was so intrigued that wants to see the bottle and do his own
research.
All the best to everyone,
Sharlene

Hello,
I have been suffering with joint pain post chemo too. I've been taking glutamine(for muscles), and glucosamine/chondroiton for the joints. I found relief with the muscle pain but nothing significant for the joints in my hips, fingers or shoulders.

I had hand x-rays, and nerve tests done on my hands and arms(for neuropathy). Each time I have issues with my joints I'm told it carple tunnel.

I didn't have these problems before chemo.

Hi all.........I started PT last week. Have been twice now. Already some improvement! So, along with the Glucosamine, I highly recommend PT!
I can touch the top of my head with my right hand now! :-)
