After Gemzar, Carbo & Avastin (?) Day 5 - still feeling sick

0 Recommendations

I had Gemzar, Avastin and 1/2 of the carbo over 8 hours (desensitization) and I still feel sick. The anti-nausea meds (Zofran) don't seem to make much difference. Just thinking about chemo makes me want to throw up. I'm due for Gemzar Tuesday - I dread it. I still have 2 more to go....how will I ever do it???

There are other anti nausea med u can take. Maybe a different one will work better for you. You can take 2 or 3 different ones concurently if you need to like I did.

Sorry you are so miserable. Definitely ask your doctor about Emend. I had terrible nausea when I went on Taxotere/Carbo and he gave me that. I took it the day of treatment and for 2 more days after. It is very expensive (I paid about $94 for 3 pills after the insurance), but it works. You can also take Zofran or Compazine at the same time. Call your doctor and they will give you something.

Hope you feel better.

I am sorry to hear you are sick...I did avastin, carbo and taxol and became allergic to the taxol and finished 7 treatments of avastin and carbo and did not get out of bed for 3 to 5 days after each treatment. Are you taken all your meds before chemo? I would ask for emend and see if that helps it did on me. Is this a recurrance? Keep your chin up and know this to shall pass! God Bless and my prayers are with you.

ask for aloxi, may be spelled wrong-or emend.

Hi, I take e-mend and Kytril. I still have nausea, however, I can't imagine how sick I'd be without these two drugs....I'm on Taxotere/Avastin. My side effects usually last for three days after treatment. I have chemo once a week for three wks. then a wk off. I've never heard of aloxi(sp) has anyone else besides sbender3 been on it? I'd like to know more about it. Anything we can share with each other is a help, right?

Thanks for all the advice and support. I was scheduled to have Gemzar only today but my blood count was too low so it's being postponed. I'm actually relieved - I still don't feel good. My doctor thinks it could be that my body is reacting to the carbo (even with the desensitization) and my blood counts. Will try emend next time - also heard ginger capsules prior to chemo help so I'm willing to try that, too. I did Goji juice during my initial treatment 2 years ago and I had a relatively easy time so maybe I'll order that again.

I was terribly sick and finally was prescribed ondansetron which I think is similar to Zofran. It was costly but did help. My oncology team was amazing and their motto was if I was suffering or sick they weren't doing their job. If something wasn't working they tried something else. No one needs to suffer needlessly, it is miserable enough. Keep your doctors informed, let them know if you need more help. I have also heard that there have been wonderful results from acupuncture during chemo to help with the side effects

The Gemzar really made me ill. Hung on for 3 months on the med and after transfusions for both platelets and whole blood, I had to get off of that drug. I've been on chemo for the last couple years non-stop and have tolerated most pretty well.
Hope you're feeling better soon!
