Just a little inspiration

This is a poem I received from the dr's office when I was first diagnosed. Most of you have probably received it too, but just wanted to share.

The Oak Tree

A mighty wind
blew night and day.
It stole the oak tree's leaves away,
Then snapped its boughs
and pulled its bark
until the oak tree was tired and stark.
But still the oak tree held its ground
while other trees fell all around.
The weary wind gave up and spoke
"how can you still be standing, Oak?"
The oak tree said,"I know that you
can break each branch of mine in two,
carry every leaf away,
shake my limbs, and make me sway.
But I have roots stretched in the earth
Growing stronger since my birth.
You'll never touch them, for you see,
They are the deepest part of me.
Until today, I wasn't sure
Of just how much I could endure.
But now I've found, with thanks to you
I'm stronger than I ever knew."

I love this poem! I am going to frame it & give it to the nurses to hang in my treatment room. Thanks Shonna!

The first time I read this was a few days after diagnosis. This poem made me cry. And I still could every time I read it.... I'm glad you guys liked it.

I SOOOOOOOOOO needed this. I've been brought to my knees with pain and frustration lately (disease not responding and I'm barely able to eat and always in pain, always).

I am so happy I logged on today and found this poem, going to print it and keep it close.
Thank you!

I am sorry to hear your not feeling well. This poem really helped me too when I was really down. I'm glad you found it when you needed to!

I was looking at all of the cards I received when I had my surgery/treatments and one of the cards had this poem on the front of the card-Hallmark.
: )

Hi Renee, I read your outcry and I know where you are coming from. I too am battling this horrific disease.
I was diagnosed in April 2005 with Stage 3C the same as you. I had my surgery at North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset, NY had a compassionate surgeon who removed as much cancer visiably possible(debulking) had 6 rounds of taxil/carbo-stayed in remission almost 3yrs. In May,2008-they found lesions in my liver-CA125 was 34-had radiofrequency ablation-sucessfully-had 6 more round on taxil/carbo-finished in Nov.2008-In Dec. had routine CT scan & Pet Scan-Oops!!!
this time the cancer returned back in my vaginal cuff with a CA125 of 12. Apparently, this time the chemo did not work-so then my Dr. who I trust alot!!! switched me to "Doxil"-did not work and I had every imaginable side effect!!! plus my #'s were climbing-CA125-"60"-had another CT scan & Pet Scan and Oops!! Now there are new lesions back in my liver too!! just one year since my second recurrence- my Dr. now I started me on "Avastin & Cytaxan-(June 12, 2009)I just saw my dr. this past week and had my bloodwork to check my levels--Oops!!! my CA125 is now 269-It is higher than was I was first diagnosed with cancer-"185" There are false positives with this blood test-anything could be setting it haywire!! I have my next treatment July 2nd and I am hoping my levels start go down. If not, I will have my sword in hand and I promise you I will slay this dragon once more!!!!
Renee, I know this journey is a roller coaster ride but you need to focus on positive things- Hold on to Hope!!
I would like to share with you "my sister"a quote that gives me much inspiration and it goes like this:
"Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass....
It's about learning to dance in the rain!"
Renee, keep fighting!! with "Hope" you have everything!!!!"
God Bless you,

I just wanted to bring this back up for some of the new members. Since my recurrance, I go back and read it from time to time..

Thanks shonna... I never read that one before.
