I had carbo/taxol and had similar pains and more - if you are ever extremely concerned about what is an odd or painful symptom, please call her doctor. She should not have to endure the pain even if it is considered "normal". I was given vicodin or percacet (depending on who refilled it) for extreme pains and a high dose (800mgs I think?) of Ibuprofen for bone pain. My pain typically lasted that first week after treatment and was then better. Good luck to you both on this journey. So glad you are reaching out on her behalf.

It is the taxol that causes the joint pain and if she is on Neulasta or Neupogen for white blood cell stimulation, that also causes severe joint pain.

Yes, we did not notice this when she got Carboplatin only during first round....

and as I said, in second round, she got both Carboplatin and Paciltaxel - Albumin bound, and this may have caused this.....and quite interestingly, this started happening after 2,3 days.......I have asked her to take water as much as possible.....

Her ascites fluid has definitely gown down 60% gone, BUT, her CA-125 has increased drastically after first round with only 1 line of drug ). We have not yet collected CA-125 after Second Round of chemo - in which she got both - first line and second line of chemo.......

I'm praying to God to come down this number ......

Yes, you get lots of aches and pain with chemo and they usually do go away after a while. Make sure your wife tells the doctor about all her symptoms - it's important he know everything and will suggest what she can do to relieve it. Hope things improve and she feels better.

I would have to agree that the week after chemo I would ache like I was hit by a truck! I didn't like taking the strong pain meds because I felt really out of it. My saving grace was over the counter Tylenol Arthritis. Also, drinking plenty of water and sleeping!
I agree with the other posts for the reasons why she feels achy.
Best of Luck!

If you know to expect it, you just prepare by taking something for pain and doing as little as possible for a few days...that helped me. I anticipated it and it made it easier to deal with. Coupled with Neulasta I felt like someone had hit my leg bones with a baseball bat and I ached all over like I had flu or arthritis, but it does subside and knowing it is killing the cancer, you learn to accept it. That being said, it is not fun.

After my first round of chemo when I had an allergic reaction to the Taxol they started giving me Tylenol as one of my pre-meds for the anti-inflammatory effect. You might try that to help with the discomfort. It's best to use Tylenol and not aspirin or Motrin because of the anticoagulant (blood thinning) effects they have.

You know we're praying for her as well.

If your wife suffers from reflux, be careful with the ibuprofen. The chemo overpowered my reflux, I couldn't get the oncology folks to help me with it until the end, when I began coughing every day until I vomited. To their credit, they did immediately realize reflux was causing the coughing. Once my regular doctor proscribed Carafale (Carafase?) and doubled my protonix and I'd done that for a week, the symptoms subsided. Sadly, it was too late to repair the damage to my singing voice. Fortunately, it didn't affect my ability to teach. Mixed blessings. The best part is that I'm 2 years past chemo with NED.

Its really amazing that what wonderful people gets connected in this site.......
Everytime I ask for something.......I get it..........

You people are really amazing and I wish, wish , wish.....May God Give all our hope.......

Your each pray and thoughts are really blessings to my wife.....

I had six sessions of carbo/taxel and had considerable aches and pains, mostly in my legs. Knees. Ankles. Weak muscles in my legs. I felt a bit unsteady on my feet during the worst of it.

Everyone has a different reaction and some have more pain than others. In my case I chose to put up with the discomfort rather than take tylenol or ibuprofen or any other pain med. I simply did not want to add more (even over the counter stuff) to what my body was already getting. Fortunately, the aches/pains seemed to subside over the first few days. Felt better and better each day until the next chemo session.

I pray all goes well with your wife during her treatment.

I had my 8th and last chemo in April. I have neuropathy and the pain in my feet is almost unbearable. Lyrica did not help. I can not take pain pills as I prefer the pain rather than spaced out feeling and dizziness from drugs. I was told it would get better but as yet it has not. I was on carboplatinum and taxol at 3 week intervals. Has anyone found something to help alleviate the pain?

You said the pain was minor? If so, have her try long walks, and hot water bottles in bed at night. I try not to take many pain killers, and I was able to keep my muscle and joint aches in check with these two remedies.
