Just want to check in and hopefully encourage others with my experience. I switched to Hollister pouch and barrier a couple months ago. I find that the barrier has the advantage of being much smaller than than a Convatec barrier I had used before, so much less skin gets irritated. Keeping my skin health around my stoma is the second most important issue for me. My biggest challenge is keeping the barrier fastened and avoiding leaks. As my stoma is not a garden hose with a hole perfectly at the end (it is more like the hose squirts out at the side, very close to belly/skin level). Even though the Hollister system adheres very well, after two days of wear, I am at risk of liquid seeping under the seal of the flange/barrier.
I woke at 5:30 this morning with only my second night time blow out. Now I'm showered and have a fresh appliance and I am ready for two days of whatever the world throws my way.
I am very grateful to be on vacation this week, and today I am going to see my childhood friend, Brian, who I have not seen in nearly 40 years.
Happy Labor Day to everyone and hang in there bags/pouches LOL!
