what supplies do you use?

I just was wondering which company and products are used most. My ostomy nurse said that Convetec is the number one selling product.
I thought it might be nice to see what people use and what they like about them.
I use hollister new image two piece. I like it because the pouch is quiet, it's beige (so I don't have to see what is going on in the pouch :) ), and the venting filter I found is better for me than convetec.
I plan to try their new moldable flanges to see if that would work better for me.
What about you??

hey sunsand, I use coloplasti bags one piece and hollister stoma paste, hollister powder, hollister belt I use a spray prep. I forgot the name lol. That is it easy breezy finally got it all to work just right. Had a hard time at first.

God bless
Dolly

After struggling with leaks and blow outs I have found that the Hollister two piece system works best for me. I use a convex flange and then put the opaque bag on. I use a Hollister belt as well.
I had been using a product from England called "Salts" and though it would be perfect as the flange had petals (like a flower) that would mould more closely to my contours. I used Eakin seals with them. The pouch also had a little pleat built into it so that you could peek at your stoma to make sure everything was OK. The only problem was they would last 4 - 24 hours only!
I would love to go back to a 1 piece system as I find the 2 pieces quite high profile and not as easy to disguise under clothing but I am willing to go with whatever gives me the most peace of mind.

My ostomy nurse started me with ConvaTec too but after experimenting I use Hollister 2 piece New Image. I like the smaller (7") pouch & it is quiet. Plus I found Eakin Seals don't work too well for me so I use the convex skin barriers (wafer). And I measure my stoma whenever I change things to be sure of fit because I use the pre-cut.

My Stoma nurse started me off on Convatec Natura and although I've tried othert systems it does seem to be the best for me. In the UK all the Stoma nurses seem to be tied into one or other supplier. I'd like one that had all of them and could discuss the merits of each to find the best. As it is I wait for the short days of winter to experiment with new products (because we don't go travelling then!)

My mom is using CONVATEC 1 pc. It's cheap roughly 3-4USD per piece which can ;last for 7-10days.. Will let you know the model later.. :)

I use everything Hollister. My pouch is #8081, one piece. I use their ring under the flange, their powder when I need it, their skin prep and adhesive remover. I also use Hollister Adapt Lubricated Deodorant. It all works well for me. The only problem I have some time is it's hard to work over my navel with the flange. I try to make sure the flange is adhered to my skin well but sometimes I miss and then I have a leak. Not often, but sometimes.
Blessings,
Alan

All the MFGs products are good: Hollister, Convatec, and Coloplast. I use the coloplast sure lock system (has a double lock on the pouch that goes on the barrier). It also has a double barrier seal, good for those of us who "sweat" or as ladies might say "perspire". I limit the use of stoma powder as that could build up and cause the barrier to come loose. I don't use any seals or paste, because the Coloplast barrier has the "double" ring barrier already. I do have some Hollister supplies that I keep around just in case I run out of the Coloplast.

Ostomates use products from various suppliers, however, you have to be careful where they were manufactured. Make sure they come from a reputable company.

very interesting to see what everyone uses. I have the summer off from work (work in education) so I am looking forward to experimenting a bit with products. Thanks for the replies.

I use everything by hollister. I have been very happy with it cause I have sensitive skin and this product doesn't seem to bug the skin to much.

still experimenting. The Hollister seal irritates my skin so am waiting for a sample from Convatec. They are also sending two different types of pouches to try. I think it is all trial and error till you find the perfect combination that works for you.

tjane I just called Convatec today to see if they would send me some samples also. And I agree trial and error.

I have always used a two piece hollister system; but with all these conversations about CONVATEC I just might try them. The best thing I got was the wafer cutter I don't have to worry about cutting out my size and it makes smooth edges.

Hi Bana,

Is that the Nu-Hope Stoma Hole Cutter? Or is there another one?

The reason we have different manufacturers, is because we are all different and therefore will require different appliances to use, different ways of putting on the barrier, pouch and etc. The important thing to remember is, when we converse with everyone, it gives others the chance to say "maybe that will work for me" and then they will try it.

Hi Happy S; yes it is the Nu Hope stoma cutter it is awesome, I always keep 5 prepped pouches in my daily bag i keep with me and have some ready for at home. Best thing that someone came up with. My insurance even covered it

Happy S; where in the UK do you live. I have family in Scotland and have not traveled over there since I got sick. Hopefully I can make it back one day. My grandparents were born in Peterhead

Kind of reminds me of an AA meeting, stoneface. If I share what it was like, what happened, and where I am now maybe it will help somebody else. Maybe someone will read my experience and realize, "If he made it, so can I." Isn't that why we are all here? I know that's why I'm here.
Blessings,
Alan

Hi Bana,

My only Scottish blood is from my Great great Grandfather who came from Edinburgh. I live in London, which because of the Olympics is like a ghost town everywhere other than in the East where the games are happening. Much weeping and wailing from restaurants and hotels who thought they were going to make a fortune! I'm just enjoying the space. It ends at the week end so I suppose it will be back to crush time and gridlock next week. Let me know if you get over here. Oh yes thanks for the information on the cutter.

HappyS,
Never been to England. I would love to see some of the castles. Pictures are interesting and beautiful. Have you seen the queen in person? Not met, seen. I listened to her coronation on the radio from my 6th grade classroom. Always been fascinated with the royal family especially Prince William and his bride. I saw the gorgeous wedding on TV live and loved it. A true love story.
Blessings,
Alan

Alan,

Only seen her from a distance but I once sat behind Princess Margaret at a pageant. She smoked Lucky Strike (Without filter tip) A little know fact that should be taken on board by some other World leaders is that they have minimal security and even the Queen travels with just a couple of police motor cycles and a following car and they don't hold up other road users - of course if it's a State Occasion that's different.
