Does anyone have a problem with skin wafers melting around the urostomy and covering the recessed stoma? I have tried coloplast wafers hollister adapt wafers and eakin.

twobagsfull, try to befriend hairball who is a member on this site. He is a great guy and has an urostomy for over 6 years. He can maybe give you some hints since he has been dealing with his urostomy for so long.
God bless you

It isn't necessary to keep a close seal around the retracted urostomy stoma.Try expanding the Eakin seal and giving the opening more room.Even if the stoma becomes covered it will still function because the urine comes out under pressure. However there was a study done that shows how microscopic particles of the seal can possibly find their way up the ureters and permanently block the flow. This can cause stagnation of the urine and infections,so be careful to keep the stoma opening clear.

Thanks for the tip about the seal entering the ureters. I want to avoid an infection or blockage at all costs. I thought I neede a tight seal to keep the urine off my skin. I am new at this.

Pre cut skin barriers works well try using coloplast xpro click-conva tec sur fit natura-hollister new image flextend there all come convex or flat . There all have good pouches, most last 5 days or longer. I change them after 4 or 5 day I change manufactor each time they all use differant adhesive..Good Luck

How long does your two stage urostomy pouch last? I change everything after three days, (sometimes four), because I am afraid it will start leaking when I leave home. I have had bags last as long as seven or eight days but I think that is very risky. What are you doing?

I change about every 3 days just because it is more comfortable. I like to bath and I like to take the flabge off in the tub. I leave them on when I shower.

I use cymed micro skin bags for my urostomy. Can't say enough good about them. I have a recessed stoma at waist and close to belly button plus hernia bulge. Could not get anything to work. Most I got was a day's wear with leaks all the time. Used all kinds of bags, paste, seals, rings, hollihesive, belts, etc. Then I found cymed. I use a bag and skin tac wipe from torbot. That is it. Very quick changing time. It comes off and goes on easily. I give them 100 stars!!! I am now tear free thanks to cymed. Websites: www.cymedostomy.com and www.torbot.com. Good luck. Any questions, just ask.

Change time is important to me because my stoma loves to squirt urine like a water pistol when you least expect it. It depends on how much and how recently I have drank but it loves to squirt about every minute or two and likes to squirt if I press on my stomach. I live alone and having only two hands instead of four is definitely a detriment. It is amazing but not amusing to see how high and far the little guy can shoot urine when he wants to play. I think I will start a contest, any challengers?

twobagsfull, when I used Hollister it was change every three days. Now using Convetec for a year and lasting seven days -- once a week I go to Cancer Hospital and the stoma nurse does the job. The convetec is the most simple one, 45 size -- actually the only kind sold in the hospital! I swear by that product as well as the drainage bag that Convetec makes.

Hey flatulance,

I am up for the challenge. Lol. Mine can act like a fountain some days. It can be quite funny. Reminds me of changing my son's diapers when he was a baby!

Seven days! That would be great... I use Convatec and I only get about 3 or 4 days from each wafer and bag... I have gotten more but I am gambling that it will start leaking when I least want. Today it started leaking after only 2 an a half days and caught me at the supermarket... You can imagine the embarassment.

Yes! That is just what it is like... And it always waits until everything is nice and dry and clean before it starts squirting! I just wish you could count on a certain number of days before the damn pouch starts leaking and soaking everything.

Flatulence, the hospital stoma nurse uses Compound Bensoin Tincture which is very sticky substance when it dries and maybe that is doing the trick! Is that available outside of India?
