Humaria

Went back to the doctors yesterday. This sore that is on my stomach is called pyoderma gangreosum. Only 10% of people get this after having surgery for chrons. I am on steroids and they are going to start me on shots of Humaria. MY QUESTION--- Are any of you on this and does insurance cover the cost well? I have Anthem Blue Cross Advanage. I know it is expensive,. I just pray that my insurance will cover most of the cost. Also, is there anyone that has had side effects from using Humaria? This has really got me scared. I just pray that this medication heals this really sore ulcer. I am also on medication for the pain. The pain just happens out of no where. It feels like someone is sticking a knief in my stomach. Please pray for things to get better. I have my daughter Tina, with MS and I have to get healthy again to help care for her.
Thank you, God Bless, Marilyn

I am glad they finaly figured out what you are dealing with. I have never been on Humaria so can not advise on the cost or if it is covered. Your Dr. or Insurance company should be able to tell you. My guess that it is covered. It is advertised alot. Don't know about the side affects. I do remember someone comenting on the fact that it is a form of chemo and that there joints were sore after an infusion. But also think they said that the soreness should go away. I hope you have a speedy recovery and you start healing realy fast. I know some one else can advise you better since I do not have any first hand knowledge. xox terri

Hi Marilyn,
Happy that they know what it is and how to treat it!! I'm praying that the meds will clear it quickly and you will be spared any of the side effects, if it has any.
I can not speak first hand to this drug, as I have not been on it. I'm sure someone will pop in soon with their experiences with it.
Praying also that your insurance will cover the cost!
Feel better..
Mare

Hi Marilyn.
I don't know anything about this drug, but having had two very bad ulceration adjacent to my stoma in the past two years, I sincerely am sorry you are dealing with this problem. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Hey Marilyn,
I haven't had any dealings with this medication. However, if you go on line and ask Google about side effects there will be a website where you can read about them.
I hope this all gets cleared up soon.
Blessings,
Alan

Hi Marilyn,
I was on Humira ( for treatment of Crohn's) for a little more then six months, several years ago. I noticed no side effects at all, and initially had a good response to my Crohn's disease symptoms. Unfortunately after a while, the Humira however, stopped working for me........... I did not have BCBS, but my insurance did cover the cost. Call your insurance if you are unsure of what's covered in your plan. An Insurance rep. should be able to help you. .... I wish both you and your daughter well.

Marilyn,

Best wishes to you and your daughter! I hope you have a speedy recovery once on Humira.

Kerri

Summerlove,

Thank you for the information. My doctors office is going to check on the insurance company for me. Once they have it done, then I can get started on the Humaria. What happened for you when it didn't work any longer for you? I hope you are doing ok now. Or as ok, as any of us can be, dealing with life the way it is now.

Hugs, Marilyn

Thank you Kerri, I am also hoping that the Humaria will work for me. I thought after I had my surgery for Chrons, that things would be ok. Never thought I would have more problems. Oh well, I just have to learn to take one day at a time. Even though that is hard for me to do.

Mrilyn

Of course, it's hard for you to do and I'm so sorry you have to. Don't you feel sometimes like it's all just overwhelming? I know I do. I so hope this all works out for you and the ongoing problems cease.
Blessings,
Alan

Hi Marilyn, To answer your question, after Humira I tried Tysabri. Although it never went in remission, it did heal a good portion of my colon. Unfortunately a small percentage of people have contracted PML (a brain disorder) after being on Tysabri. The risk increases after several years of treatment. My doctor and I decided it was not a risk worth taking, and stopped Tysabri.( I probably have tried every drug there is to treat Crohn's.) June 2011 I had a loop ieostomy with the hopes to someday reverse. For now I am being "maintained" on Prednisone and antibiotics. I was hoping to feel well enough to try a new drug, But it hasn't been approved yet by FDA, and time is running out. ... I was just recently hospitalized with Pulmonary Embolism in both lungs. They think this was a result of the Crohn's. ....I meet with my GI doctor in a few weeks, and decide the next step. Truthfully as much as I wanted to reverse the ileosotomy, I just want to be well. If removing the colon will give me my health back I'm ready.... I wish you well with Humira. Keep us posted.

Thanks Summerlove, I wish I could say somthing positive for you. It sounds like you have really been through a lot. I thought by having a portion of my colon out that would get me thorugh having the Crohn's. It was all new to me and I didn't realize that you never get over Crohn's. I just hope that the Humira works for me and we can get me into remission. Maybe if I pray hard enough and long enough God will grant me my prayer. I will also be praying for you. I was on many, many meds before the surgery, to try and get the Crohn's under control, like you they just didn't work. I will let you know how things go, once I start on the Humira. I just hope it works.

Hugs, Marilyn
