Good News

Just got a call from my doctors office this morning. They have wanted me to start on the Humira, but my insurance was gone for the year. So, she said to come in today and they had samples of the medication that they could get me started on it today. I have applied for help through the Abbott Foundation and am still waiting to hear about that. She said if we didn't hear from them before the next injections that they would get more samples for me. This medication is very expense and I could never afford it with out insurance. I will have prescription insurance again the first of the year. This year I had used it all up.
Praise God, he has been here for me again. I can't tell you how relieved I am that I can get on this medication.

Thank all of you. I just got back from my 60 mile drive to the doctors. I learned how to do the injections. Was not hard at all. Now I am praying that Abbott comes through for me so I can stay on the medication. The doctors told me if I don't hear from them in time for the nex injection that they will get me some more samples. I thank God for all this good that is happening for me right now.

Great news not dig in and get better something we all deserve to do.

Marilyn, I am thrilled that you are getting your medication. I know how scarey it can be when we need something and there is no way to pay for it. I've been there. Didn't like it.
Keep us posted. We always want to read what's going on with you.
Blessings,
Alan

Hello Everyone,

I want to thank all of you, for your kind words and good wishes. It has been God that has blessed me. Prayer really does help things along. I had so many of you ,and also my friends here praying for me. I feel so blessed to have all of you to talk with,. Now, another great bit of news. Yesterday after I got home from the hospital from taking my first four shots. I was making supper and the phone rang, it was Healthwell foundation ,telling me that I was approved for a $2,500.00 grant for my medication. so, now I will have enough to last until next year. Then I will have more coverage with my prescription insurance. Without insurance the two shots a month cost $1,000.00. That is a lot of money. I have also applied to Abbott Foundation to help pay for my medication, I should hear from them in about 2 weeks. Thank all of you again. I feel I have some really great friends in you people.

God Bless all of you, Marilyn

You do, Marilyn, you do. I'm so please to read about the grant. What a load off your mind!
Take care. You know we all love you.
Blessings,
Alan

thats great Jonsey..im thinking humira is like inflixemed treatment? Ive now been having this treatment for a good 4 years and i found that when they stopped it,my crohns flared really bad..I was then put back on it,i have it every 6 weeks and to be honest dont think i could manage without it but here in the uk this treatment is available on the NHS and im aware it is very costly,so im very grateful that i recieve this treatment...I hope the humira makes a big difference for your health :) x

Alan,

Wonderful news Marilyn. God is good and always comes through, it seems so often at the last minute, when all of our efforts have failed, then He comes on the scene and saves the day. I sure hope you get all you need from this medication with no side effects. God bless you. Prayers from,
Carey

Thank you Carey, Do you also have Crohns??? I had my first four shots this week. So far all is good. No side effects, but it is early. I will see how it goes after I have been on the Humira for a while. But so far great!!! I will not have medication to last until the first of the year. Yes, God is good, but it is always in his time not ours. I will never give up hope through God.

Hugs, Marilyn God Bless!

Marilyn, My husband is disabled from a work-related brain injury. We have been together for more than fifty years, 20 of which i have been his fulltime caregiver. I am here because God led me to this site last year after we got Tom home after four months in hospital where we nearly lost him to sepsis following emergency bowel surgery that resulted in an iliostomy which i and our sons take care of, along with a seizure disorder. Being new to caring for an ostomy, i have learned so much from all those (you know who you are) who are here to give of yourselves in sharing love, prayers, encouragements, concerns, warnings, commonsense, knowledge, humor and so much more. I am sorry you must endure this disease. I pray that this medication will allow you and your medical providers to control and manage it, forstalling need for any kind of surgery. Be well. Prayers from,
Carey

Dear Carey,

I am so sorry to hear about your husband. I will be praying for him. I to am a care giver to our daughter Tina. she is 42 years old. when she turned 30 she was diagnosed with MS. At the time she was married but after 2 years her husband left her. She now lives about 8 blocks from us by herself. Her doctors at Cleveland Clinic want her to be on her own as long as she can. She has trouble with her balance, but is still able to walk, she has short term memory loss and cognitive issues. She can no longer drive a car. So with me being sick off and on for the past two years has been really hard. But now since my colon surgery I am hoping that things will improve a lot for me. Always needing a bathroom at the drop of a hat was hard. Always had to plan my time around when I would eat and when I would be able to go out for a while, without a problem. At least with the ostomy I don't have that problem any longer. I am just hoping that the Humira medication keeps me in remission. Like you, I am so thankful that I found this site. So many caring people on here and also I have learned a lot from everyone. Will keep in touch and let you know how things go.

Hugs, Marilyn God Bless!

I appreciate your prayers very much, Marilyn. Im so sorry to know what a difficult time your daughter is having with her health issues. Our oldest son is fifty and has a history of mental problems (Thank the Lord not alcohol or drugs) more about appearance issues. He lives with us and and wears a towel on his head so we cant see his face. He goes out in the car once in a while but wont set foot outside the car. It is all very strange and bewildering to me and my husband because we dont understand what happened to make him behave this way. What type of ostomy did you say you have? My husband has an iliostomy we call Izzy. It took some time to get used to, but 17 months post surgery, draining the pouch every three or four hours is just part of the daily routine. It really hasnt been that big of a deal. Im very thankful for it because without it, obviously my husband wouldnt be alive. Im so glad you have been able to adjust to your ostomy and that it has improved the quality of your life. We never know what life will hand us but having a positive attitude like yours helps getting through it much more pleasant. Be well and stay strong in the Lord. Prayers from,
Carey

Dear Carey,

I am so very sorry to hear about your son. I am sure you have had help through doctors. Can't the do anything to help him. I would think their would be some type of medication that would help.
I had a colonostomy (not sure of the spelling). I had the surgery Aug 16th. Then two weeks after surgery I go what they call a pyoderma gangreosum on my stomach right near my stoma. It is like a open ulcer , has to do with the Crohns. I am going to a wound care nurse at the hospital, once a week to have the dressing changed. It is finally starting to look better. I think in a few more weeks it should be healed.
You are a very strong woman yourself. You help care for your husband and son. I guess we all do what we have to. With God's help we always seem to make it through things.
You take care and I am keeping you and your family in my prayers,.

God Bless, Marilyn

Marilyn, None of my son's experiences with doctors have been positive or helpful. So far he refuses to take any medication. In earthly terms, his condition seems hopeless but with God nothing is impossible. His name is Daniel. Thank you for asking God to help him find a way out of the hole he has dug for himself. Im so sorry you had complications after your surgery. You sure didnt need that. Will you able to have a reversal? My husbands wound is almost healed. I dont do anything for it now except have him rub in Vit.E cream every night. The scar has formed into the shape of a diamond. His wound nurse said it looks like a shield to her. LOL As far as strength goes, its the Lords, not mine and i give Him all the glory. I hope you are taking it easy and getting lots of rest as you adjust to your new normal. Are you finding all the right supplies you need? I hope they are all working well for you. Taking care of my husbands stoma was a little intimadating at first but with the encouragement of his ostomy nurse and the prayers and advise of the people on this site, i got comfortable with it pretty quickly. Prayers from,
Carey
