Stoma bleeding - normal?

0 Recommendations

I know, I know, all I ever do on this forum is ask questions, but hey, I'm brand new to this.

Previously I wore a gauze pad under the PEG's rubber stopper 24/7 (changing it once a day, of course) to help absorb all the leakage. But, the leakage seems to have cut down recently so now I'm only wearing the gauze at night.

I've noticed blood on the gauze before, but it didn't seem like much.

Today though, I'm bleeding for no apparent reason, and the blood has gone beyound the borders of the stopper and dripped all down my stomach.

Maybe it's always been bleeding this much but the gauze absorption made it look like less.

My question - is bleeding just a normal issue, like leakage, which will continue to happen? Is it anything to be concerned about?

I'm not a tube feeder or a clinician...so I can't answer your question...but it seems like something you should be asking your physician, or a nurse in your physician's office.

My philosophy is better safe than sorry. I think it's always better to ask a doctor and have it be nothing than not ask and have it be something.

It might be wise to see the doctor about the bleeding. Sometimes granulation sores can cause bleeding (at least, they do with me), so you might want to check and see if you have any of these and get them burnt off with silver nitrate.

Well, it's what the gi clinic called proud flesh (smae thing as granulation, maybe?) and it seems to be where all the blood was coming from. So far I've had it cauterized twice by the doc and hopefully that'll do the trick.
