Rib muscle pain ever since PEG insertion

0 Recommendations

Just wondering if this was a common thing...
Ever since my PEG insertion, I've had pain in my left side around my ribs/abs. I can't sleep on my left side; and any time I exert myself or go over a bump in the car or lie in the wrong position, I get quite the muscle cramp.

It's nothing unlivable, but it can be annoying. Just wondering if it's a common afteraffect of having a hole inserted in one's abdominal wall :) and if anyone's got any tips on how to relieve it. Or is it pretty much a long-lasting thing I'm just going to have to deal with and ignore?

Hernia Pain

I had that same pain. Because of a hernia, my stomach is up higher than most. The tube caused terrible pain up by my ribs at first. I used a little bit less water in the balloon and the pressure was relieved some. It also improved the longer I had my tube.

Well, it's encouraging to know that it improved gradually. My tube is also inserted higher than most - just two inches directly below my sternum.
I've just got a PEG right now but it'll be replaced with a Mic-Key soon; as far as I've been told though I'm getting the non-balloon kind.
