Okay, I admit it: I really messed up husband's infusion yesterday.

Without all the details, what I did was use the pump set for hydration on the TPN. Thus, TPN had NO ramp up or ramp down time, no famotidine, and no insulin.

Consequences were extreme nausea, jitters that lasted for about 8 hours after disconnect.

We're still speaking...

Oh, sorry to hear that Carol. To use the obvious saying, we all make mistakes. I'm sure you are forgiven, and you two can start over today. I'm quite sure you'll never make that same mistake again.

I do all my own accessing, hooking up, etc. I have no help at home, & I have always wanted to be self-sufficient. I've made a few big mistakes, but I have no one to blame but myself. I have called my friend who's a nurse more than once close to tears to tell her what I did. She always sets my mind at ease. Unfortunately, she usually does that by telling me some mistake she's made. She's an excellent nurse, so after I pat myself on the back for being in good company - I think about the fact that even in the best of conditions there are lots of mistakes going on in the hospital at any given time. Now that's scary. ;) But we all just have to do the best we can, right?

Take care,
Fran

Someone suggested colorful duct tape on our 3 pumps and on our 3 different types of bags, so we won't mix up these again. e.g., blue for hydration, yellow for 2:1, red for 3:1

My husb is tough but it wasn't a good thing to happen. I posted this so the rest of you would know it COULD happen so you could watch out for yet one more glitch.
