How much water should I be taking?

0 Recommendations

I'm struggling to get enough water in on top of my formula. I'm usually averaging no more than 4 c of water/day, and some days far less.

My dietician told me that since the formula is 70 percent water that I only need to take 2 c of water per day over and above the formula, but I think that's a load of crock.

But, since the formula is a liquid diet, do I still need to be taking the 8-10 glasses of water that's recommended for regular eaters, or are my requirements a little less?

What do you guys do in regards to water intake?

jack unless you are doing heavy exercise 2-4 cups are sufficient, I usually do 1 cup with each 2 cans of formula just to clean out the tube. A test for sufficient water is the color of your urine. If it is clear to yellow you are probably fine.

Hi, Jackrabbit.

I also do a cup or a little more each time to keep the tube clean as well as hydrating. In between formula (I do 2 for breakfast, two for lunch and one for dinner.) I have water and sometimes other fluid. I use gaterade and pedialyte for addiitional hydration. My formula is very satisfying, but I get really thirsty... the pediatlyte especially helps with thirst.

My routine is just what works for me. I think when it comes to water/hydration, just listen to your body. I also use gingerale occassionally. It quinces my thirst and helps keep my tube clean. And I use warm water with meals because I believe the warm cleans the tube better.

Best wishes. Marie

As time goes by, you will get more comfortable making decisions based on what your body is telling you.
