CRAMPING WHILE ON HEN VIA J-TUBE?

0 Recommendations

MY DAUGHTER RECENTLY GOT A J-TUBE FOR FEEDINGS, WE LEFT THE HOSPITAL RUNNING 50ml per hour and he wanted her running fast enough to get all 1000 ml done in 10 hours. However when ever we increase it even 5 ml per hour she starts cramping really bad and we have to cut it back. She is up to the 50 is all. Should this be a concern to us? What rate do you all run at? Is the 75-100 m;/per hour feesiable at all?

Thanks for the help

I can only get up to 50 on good days. I don't think 75-100 is feasable for all. I do have to run all day and night with it running so slow but that is usually a better option for me than the nonstop cramping.

I think the doctors give you a standard number that they consider norm, but it is an individual process. If anything over 50 just doesn't work, you just do the best you can and leave it at that.

Finally, your daughter got her tube! It depends on the formula and her nutritional needs (her height and weight) whether or not 50cc/hr is going to be enough. Which formula is she on? I'm on a calorie condensed formula (Peptamen 1.5) so I don't have to run quite as much. I do 70cc/hr x 12 hours. I can't really do more than that and running 24hr/day is actually what feels the best of all (but I hate being tethered to it 24 hrs per day). Find out what her needs are - a nutritionist is the best to determine this. Sometimes you have to try out different formulas to find out which one is best. I had to do that at first. Good luck!
