has anyone heard of usiing botox injections for gastropersis? Last night when I was in the ER dept a doctor said to try botox right into the stomach to help it move things along? I have never heard of this before. Has anyone done this?

Ultram Hysterectomy Pain Gastroparesis

I've had it done three times I think over the years. It didn't really help me, but I've heard that it's been a big help to others. It's done as if you're getting a endoscope done, so it's super easy to have it done. IMO it doesn't hurt to give it a shot...literally. ;)

I'd do it again if they wanted to just to see if it works this time since it's been a few years since my last try and things may have changed.

I had it done once. It didn't help my gastroparesis, but I looked 10 years younger.

Sanford , you are way to funny. You made me laugh on a painful awful day. Thanks

That was awesome.

I have heard of having this done, but didn't think it was "mainstream" yet.

Well another trip to the ER and now I am put on domperidone. I am so frustrated with everything that is happening. I left the ER with specific note to go straight to my doctors office to explain why he was going to be putting me on this. Well he left before I even got there. i was just in a different part of the hospital than his office and he new I was coming do you think that he is avoiding me or what? My husband was really upset , he said something to the nurse and the nurse said here is the script for the new medicine and here is the directions to it. That is all. I know nothing about this medicine or what it is suppose to do. All I know is that is not legal in The US. can anyone help me with this and what should I do about my Doctor. I have a appointment with him on the 31 of august and I am thinking of leaving his practice because of lack of response. Is there anyone from Michigan have a good GI doc? I am so upset.

I did this for years it does help but u have to do it every few months and the more you do it the less it works, that's how I ended up with a j-tube.

Rodoegrl02,
I had a j tube and will never do that again. i am thinking all my options. i discussed with a representative for legal use of marijuana and what I have to do to get it. I also have a appointment on monday with my GI dr and I have alot of things to add. He put me on Ultram for pain and it makes me sick to my stomach even with food. i am going to discuss botox but that is the last resort since I have a hard time getting a IV in me. I am weighing all my feelings and what I want for the rest of my life.

Well I guess it is Botox for me on Sept 22 at 2. This is my last resort with this Gi doc and then he said I would have to Uof Mi or mayo for a Gi motility specialist. He talked about a pacer in me but does not think that would work. He said I have alot of scar tissue and if he could find some one to remove it that would help , but to find someone would be difficult since it is such a tough spot. I am hoping the Botox will help. I have to do more research on it and see what you guys thought. I am really scar that introducing a poison in my system is going to get me really sick since I am such a rare case of everything combined. I was wondering since I have 3 major stomach operations if there is alot of scar tissue all over my intestines that going after them would do more harm than good. Any thought on that? I also had a hysterectomy and 4 scopes through the belly button did more damage than good and left with adhesion's. Has anyone had that problem and did they get them removed? Thanks wish me luck and I wish everyone happy healthy days. charliegirl3

Hey. Im 24and have been a diabetic for 22yrs. Iv had gastropareiss for the past 3yrs. Think iv tried every med under the sun from domperidone to ondansetron. They worked for a while but im still in and out of hospital in Manchester, England every few weeks. I go for my botox on the 16th of sep.

Just hope it gives me some time off from the hospital stays.

kluoa,
let me know how it goes. I am alittle nervous about this but it is worth a shot. Medicines do the same thing for me, work for awhile then not. here is hoping and getting good days

Has anyone done TPN for a couple of weeks just to give your stomach a break?

I was just going to post a topic about botox for gastroparesis. I am going for my botox injections Sept 15 and I am very nervous about it. I have tried everything and nothing has worked for me. I am trying to stay positive, but I have heard that it doesn't always work and if it does it only works for a short time.

It sounds like there are a few of us that are all going to have this done around the same time, so it will be interesting to see how we all do.

Good luck to you all and here's hoping we get some relief :-)

Take care
Kath

well I had my botox injections.I really don't know if they work or not. Iam on TPN at home for the lst 10 days. Icant eat anything solid or my stomach goes into spasms. One dr accused me of being a drug addict and said I was faking everything. Nice, I see my GI doctor thursday to see what he has planned. TPN is way better than tube feedind for me, take care

Hi Charliegirl

So sorry to hear that you don't think the Botox worked for you. That is not fair and I am sorry one of the doctors is accusing you of faking it. I am sure he wouldn't like it if he was in the kind of pain we live with and not be able to eat.

I had my Botox on Sept 15 and sadly it didn't work for me either and it has actually made things worse. My disease has really flared up and I am in terrible shape.

Have they offered you any other kind of treatment if the Botox doesn't work?? My doctors told me that we are at the end of the rope and have exhausted all the possibilities. I am already on home tpn.

Take care and would love to know how you are doing.

Hang in there
Kath

hi Kath,
Just met with my GI doctor today. I am on TPN at home but that is as far as I can go without a J tube being put in. He spent about 2 hours explaining everything to me an to my husband why everything that he has tried is not working. I am going to meet with him and a dietitian to work out a plan of what foods I can eat and what I can't. He said eventually I will end up with a tube and I started to cry. I am sorry botox did not work for you either. I got really sick after my botox thank goodness I was still in the hospital. Have you discussed a pacer for your stomach? My doctor said it would not work for me. Maybe that is another avenue you could explore. I know sometimes botox takes a second try to work but that is if you want to go through it again. Are you on tpn 24 hours or do you have it tapered for you to be off? Do you have any bad side effects from it? I know I will be on it for atleast 6 more weeks. take care
