From what I know NF is rare. I wonder if anyone famous has it.

one of the girls on degrassi has nf

really? Do u know what on? (Clar Holie J?)

Happy holidays to you too. :]
I know that Gillian Anderson (from "X-Files") is our "Jerry Lewis."
From Gillian's speech given on July 12, 2000 at an NF, Inc. Congressional Luncheon:
"Most of you know why I'm here, why I care. For those who don't know, the answer is my brother Aaron. In 1984, when I was a teen and he was three, Aaron was diagnosed with what was then called peripheral neurofibromatosis, now NF-1."
Gillian has had extensive involvement with two NF groups: She serves as NF, Inc.'s Honorary Spokesperson and is a Patron of the Neurofibromatosis Association (based in the UK).

Rumor is -- though he denies -- Robert Redford has NF-1. But he is somewhat lumpy in the face and seems to have hand-CALs.
Baseball player Dwight Evans has twin son's with NF
I heard about, but haven't seen myself, a PSA for neurofibromatosis, with Harold Ramis. Harold Ramis is a comedian (with glasses) who was in Ghostbusters, co-wrote Animal House, etc.
According to their websites, Neurofibromatosis, Inc., the Neurofibromatosis Association and Foundtion has also received support from the following celebrities (which does not mean they have it):
Arnold Palmer
Barack Obama
Christopher Atkins
Cindy Crawford
David Cassidy
David Duchovny
Dom DeLuise
Donald Trump
Gillian Anderson
Henry Winkler
James Cromwell
Jay Leno
Jim Davis
Kathy Griffin
Kenny G
Rue McClanahan
Scarlett Johansson
Seth Green
Tony Bennett
Claudia Schiffer
Emma Thompson
Jonathan Pryce
Judi Dench
Roger Moore
Jason Alexander
There are also rumors that Henry Winkler's wife has NF
And come to think of it, Bill Murray face does kinda look NF-ish ....
has any one googled famous people with nf? doing that or famous people with epilepsy, i got a long list.
I sat real close to Robert Redford and we did make Eye contact, He did smile at me when I did put my hand on my face. I do believe he has NF1
NF1 is not as rare as many believe. There are more with NF then many other disorders put together.
yes on robert redford i read
People keep going on about Robert Redford having NF. But in a scene with Barbara Streisand... that love story movie whose name escapes me now... he is naked from the waist up and there is no sign of NF. Lots of un NF folks can have a *lump* face. So I don't think he does.... but that's just my opinion.... :-)
I think that former Red Sox Player Dwight Evans son has it,
The movie Tresham was speaking of was 1973's "The Way We Were."
I'm still not saying Redford has it, but I had very few visable tumors 37 years ago ....
Thanks, Artie... I had a senior moment and the title completely left me... :-)
we are all famous some more then others thats all
who wants to be v famous any way not me thank you
Presidnt Lincon had NF,
I've never understood this interest in what celebrities might have NF--maybe it's just me but I don't see that it matters. That said, I'm with Tresham. Robert Redford has the same moles on his face that he had thirty and forty years ago. I don't believe there is any evidence whatsoever that he has NF. IMHO.
As for President Lincoln...I think someone posted that before. Whats the evidence? There has been much speculation that Lincoln had MEN2B or Marfan's. I believe the Marfan's theory has been ruled out via genetic testing. He certainly had several physical features that indicate some genetic disorder. He apparently had pectus excavatum and some other anomalies which are sometimes seen in NF and but these are also seen in SEVERAL genetic disorders including Marfan's and MEN2. Most theories point to MEN2B as a possibility. He too had the same mole on his face most of his life but he was also affected by small pox at one point too. Again at this point I don't think there is anything at all to suggest that he had NF1. I think they are still hoping to do more genetic testing (from a blood stained that has survived) but that's because they are still trying to find out if he had a disorder and whether it was MEN2B....so far NF doesn't even seem to be on the list.

In his book "When Illness Goes Public," Barron Lerner, a physician and professor of medicine and public health at Columbia University, discusses the general increase in media and general interest in public figures’ medical issues.
For "regular" Americans, he states, it is the entertainment value of sick celebrities -- seeing someone 'rich and famous" brought down to "their level" by a medical issue -- which prompts a significant demand for news coverage; a demand that the media rose to meet.
But for people with significant medical issues, it's often “the ordinariness of famous patients that made their stories so compelling for non-famous Americans confronting the same medical and emotional issues,” Lerner says. There's a psychological connection between "us" and "them," which is more compelling than between two non-famous patients.
So, I believe the group interest in famous people who might have NF stems from finding hope and inspiration from seeing people with the same medical condition acheive great success. If a "Bobby Bluechevy" can go on to win those Oscar's and Golden Globes despite the limitations NF can put in the way, well, maybe "I" can "do something," too!
Also, when NF took away my ability to play my instruments (I am a drummer who can -- um, make that USED to be able to -- play guitar, bass, keyboards and a few others), I was naturally very depressed and felt much very alone. No one, not even another musician, could understand what it felt like not to be able to even hold drumsticks any longer.
Then I read that Phil Collins had a medical (non-NF) issue that caused HIM to loose the ability to hold his drumsticks. And I didn't feel so isolated any longer.
So, from personal experience and reviewing clinical studies (lol; I'm still a psych. social worker at heart), I think I might have a grasp of the psychodynamics as to why many of us have interest in finding famous people with NF.
My view on why some are interested in knowing which celebraties have NF is that it is a "connection" to someone famous. One could say if a particular famous person is known to have NF "I have the same thing (disorder) as so-and-so." You know it's all about the bragging to be like someone who is well known.
Just my view.
I think Robert Redford brother has a a more serious case of NF
agree with Artie_Dee, I have lost my ability to being a nurse due to my disease and it has been really crushing to know I have all this knowledge and I am unable to use it because I forget things due to medications and I have very limited physical limitations now. I find it helps to know that famous people have issues too and that they have the means to donate to the cause of finding a cure. I would hope so anyways.
