tumor/fibroma itch and pain

0 Recommendations

My daughter has NF1. She has a number of tumors on her body, but not many bother her. She recently developed one on her inner upper thigh and it is driving her crazy! It is itching and is now an open sore. Being that it is her inner thigh, it is irritated by her movement, clothes, etc. I have covered it with hydrocodisone and a bandaid to help with the irritation.

Any ideas to help with this? Any creams, etc. It doesn't look infected, just irritated and irritating!

Thanks!

Migtht need to have it removed if it is bothering her.

I agree with Liz32 once they start to itch and become open it is best with mine to have them removed.

I think you should take your daughter to see her doctor. Whenever I've had bothersome fibromas, the docs have been willing to remove them.

Be careful how much cortisone cream you put on her. I don't know her age but she can get it into her system by moving threw the skin, I agree with the others and she should go to the doctors, he may be able to give her some safer different cream. And a little neosporin oint can't hurt to prevent infection.
Good luck and I hope she gets it taken off if possible. Keep us posted.

I agree with what others have said. My mom had a reddish birthmark (small) on her cheek. Probably due to her NF1. About 5 years ago, it got really itchy. It would bleed, too...a lot. The mark go so irritated that a bump (that looked more like a neurofibroma) formed where the red mark was. She had it removed. If a neurofibroma or plexiform tumor is bothering someone, usually a doctor will have no problem in seeing that it is removed.

Veronica.

What is involved in getting one removed?

FYI, she is 8.

AND....thanks for the quick response. I am new to this site and thought it would be days, if ever, that I heard back from someone!

I just made an appointment with a dermatologist. She removed one the first time I saw her. I didn't have to go back and have it done. That is the only one I ever had to itch even after it was removed. But, the itching eventually did stop. My doctor just gave me some novacain (like at the dentist) to numb it and then cut it out. Mine was only 7-8 mm. I don't know how they do the large ones. Take her to the dermatologist ASAP. You don't want her to get an infection and not be able to have it removed because of the chance of the infection spreading. Good luck!

Thanks so much. We had alternated 1%hydrocortizone creme with neosporin and covering it with a nexcare bandaid (they seal all the way around) while I was deciding what to do. For whatever reason it is now gone. =]
