I get stressed so easily, Is this due to Nf? Because I get stressed at the smallest of things.
Help!

I do too but I' not sure if it is due to nf. Keep in mind about 60% of the people with nf suffer with depression and a lot of time depression goes hand in hand with stress and anxiety. Ask your neurologist for Buspar or Xanex or Klonopin.

Oksy :) Thanks

I get Stressed so easily too.

me too. I am a sahm(stay at home mom) of 3. My kids are 6, 3, and 1. That's problly where most of my stress comes from. Stay strong.

How is depression linked to nf? Alot of people suffer with it but have nf. I understand depresssion because I go trhough it from time to time. I don't take anything for it though. I don't know if I would wnat to. Once you start you have to keep taking it or you feel worse.

I don't understand how anyone with nf could not be depressed. It rots with a capital s having this stupid unpredictable disfiguring condition and not be able to do anything about it.

I agree. I've been and out of hospitals because of my depression and anxiety disorder with stress. My medication is not a "happy pill" I have to work with it. If you don't work with the medication it won't be effective. It took a lont time to find the right medication for me. Most of my anxiety and depression comes from being in pain and sick. And a lot of fear. You don't have to take medication if you prefer not to. I thought I would just share with all of you what has helped me. I'm very sorry if I offended anyone.

I agree with Debby. I battle daily with crushing depression. I also get really stressed out easily. Little things that seem insignifigant to others drive me to rage. The big things in life dont really matter to me however. Is it wrong to be realatively unbothered by death and ready to kill somone because they didnt hold the door open for others? Maybe I'm just messed up.

Hello I too get Streesed who dosn't? is nf to balme im not sure and all these stats 60% of people with nf ect do worry me..
I have a stressful job and after time have learned to control my stress levels, exercise helps loads. that helps me, also some self improvement can work also try Anthony Robbins some people think he is nuts but to be honest it works for me other then popping a pill it isnt quite the same as being able to calm your self.and molz you are a female dont most females get stressed easily? lol..

I think too many people are concentrating to far deep into this NF stuff. (sorry, I couldn't think of a better way to word it) I'm no expert but I don't think stress is directly related to NF. Yes, I can understand living with NF can cause a lot of stress due to the the dr's appointments, tests, and etc but that can lead to stress for anybody with any condition. Look at your lifestyle, your day-to-day routine. Maybe the things you do can amount to so much stress and the littlest things can set you off. Talk to a counselor..

hi all yes i also do get stressed out and depression but stop taking happy pills my mates have alot to do with this as for my stress i find just to go and sit in the open air and have no one around me helps can someone help with this do you find that you are shaking all the time is this my nerves or or has my panic attacks come back again

I get stress to listen to music helps me.

Hi;

Single and alone, with NF 2 here. Nearly deaf... and plenty dizzy.
It's July 4th weekend. Anyone else stressed MORE than the usual daily stress?
The things I used to do, can no longer be done, and it seems others whom I knew, could care less.
So, sit this one out alone again?
Sorry about the self pity party, but NF-2 and disability sucks. There's nothing good to be said about it.
Oh; If one is a Christian, it is said by some to give God glory, praise, and thanks for the 'lesson', uh huh...

i feel that stress is apart of our lives no matter who you are. money working taking care of your family. whether you have NF or not most Americans are stressed their is two much going on in our daily lives we need to all slow down . with the economy the way it is maybe we can learn this . things can start slowing down.

Ohh ok jakee09, but I'm not american, I'm English.. SO does that apply to the English aswell?

I get stress out and yes - I have depression. It can be from my hard childhood and other factors. Since I grew up most of my life not knowing about nf until I was 36 yo.
The bad thing its on the sciatic nerve. The good thing its not very large compared to those I read here. But its painful. I'm glad for pain management but still I have to be careful about it because I don't want to take a lot of pills.
I guess one part of the depression is a wish to be normal. Doing things like other people can do.

But again I'm not sure what else to say about the depression. One day I when I'm working ,.. I will see a shrink about it.

There's was a film I watched some years ago. Its call Mr Rice's secret. Staring David Bowie and Bill Switzer.

Bit of coming of age and coming to terms with cancer and life in general. Good film.

I guess one of the morals is to not worry or stress out but focus on life.
But I guess the hard part is knowing what you're going to do with it ... I suppose one important part is not to be alone.

Stress & Depression can be devistating. I like many of you have had to fight to at times to keep them from overwhelming one self.Seeing things first hand, I would urge you to find a doctor that is knowledgeable about psychatric pharmacuticals in addition to your NF dr. I lost a spouse (didn't have NF) of 30+ years a few years back to suicide. Her dr. refused to believe her meds were making her condition worse. Buspar, Xanax, Seroquel, and so on all have a place but PLEEZE be vigilant, both patient & family. Don't let the depression or the drugs tear your family apart. Don't want to lose anyone on this site!! :-)

I get stressed easily i think it is because of NF1

Hi Molz
By stressed do you mean you get anxiety/panic attacks? Like a situation that should only be minimally stressful brings on increased heart rate, sweats, nausea or vomiting?
I have NF and 6 years ago I was diagnosed with a rare adrenal gland tumor called a pheochromocytoma. it is basicly an overgrowth of cells that produce adrenaline. Anyone can get these but it having NF can increase your chances of getting it. Although it is also concsidered a rare occurance.
Anyway, my signs/symptoms started off mild. Feeling anxious/stressed. But as the thing got bigger the very slightest thing would send me into horrible episodes where my blood pressure would sky rocket (240/140ish; normal is 120/80ish), abdo pain, vomiting
rapid weight loss etc
I don't know anyone that doesn't experience stess, NF or not. But if you get overly stressed over situations that shouldn't be stressful, ask to get your adrenal gland checked. Can be done with a urine test.
