Hello all! My 7 yr. old daughter has 4 large blind spots on her visual field test. She only had 1 last month. She had an MRI, been to Duke Hospital. The only thing on the MRi were several UBO's. She has developed sudden severe dyslexia, and double vision. The Dr's can't figure it out. She is losing her sight rapidly. Her optic nerves looked good. I was wondering does anybody have any insight or advice about this? Thanks!

benw,
how long has she had the double vision?
my mom had double vision for a couple of days and found out that she had a stroke.
if her speech is bad, that is a sign too.

I have been having double vision off and on for a few months now. It almost feels like I have been spinning in circles but without the dizziness if that makes sense at all. My doctor said it could be early hypoglycemia and told me to borderline treat it like it is. So when this happens I drink some OJ or grab something with protein and it levels out. However, if I don't, it seems to last until I do. You are never too young to be hypoglycemic. The test for it though is pretty yucky, not painful but yucky. I had an mri and a cat scan and had my eyes checked and they all came up negative for anything to be worried about. It could be something minor but I would keep an eye on it.

Might be Tay-Sachs disease. Check the link.

Thank you for your responses. My daughter sems to be doing better this week. She's no longer complaining of headaches, and shakiness, and says she isn't seeing double as much. My new question is, can kids with NF1 have these kinds of symptoms come and go?She still has large deficits in her visual field, but no tumors. She actually has good vision, despite everything. Her dyslexia has suddenly disappeared, as quickly as it came. (she had it for a year) Have any other parents out there experienced this? She goes to the NF clinic at Duke, but even the Drs. don't have any answers.
