Removal of NF Tumors

6 Recommendations

I am going to NYC tomorrow to meet with Dr. Weinberg a plastic surgeon who removes NF tumors through a process called electro-desiccation. He can remove hundreds of tumors at time. My surgery is on Tuesday at 1:00. I will keep the board posted on results!!

I just heard about this sight I also have NF1 and i want to wish you the best of luck in NYC

Good Luck with your surgery. We are from NY area but are not familiar with Dr. Weinberg. What hospital is he associated with? Any other Drs.?

Dr. Weinberg is in Manhatten. He has his own practice. If you type in "Dr. Weinberg" in on a search engine you will get his webpage. He is very dedicated to NF. There are no other doctors who does what he does.

the best of luck and wishes to you! :)
you will have to tell us how it goes..

i know this is a silly question but does your insurance cover something like that and if not.. is it oober expensive? I know its totally none of my business so if I cross a line just kick me.. its cool. :P

Hi Guys,

I just had a couple of small tumors removed yesterday, a small one on my chin and a nasty little bugger that kept moving under my armpit. I also have never heard of this process...but I'm gonna ask my doctor next monday about it when the stiches come out...GOOD LUCK today!

I went to a guy in Dallas called Dr Melmed. He does the same kind of surgery. Had great results on my face...
I had 1000s removed from torso and back, but new ones are starting to grow. :-( I'm now home in Australia and I am yet to find a doctor that will do the same, and insurance to cover it.

Good for you i saw the sight and thought it was great you will be fine
Gods Blessings to you!

In Richardson there is a guy called Kasbarian. He's my GP and for a blue-eyed wonder knows something about NF. Good luck on your surgery! Let us know how it went!

Good luck to you!!!!!!!!!! Have a safe trip.

Hello All

The surgery was today, the doc did my whole face one arm and my chest an stomach. Right now i look like I have been exposed to nucular radiation or somethink but i feel fine. He did have to put in a couple of sutures and those hurt a little. I was prescribed some pain meds but have not taken any yet.

Yes elctro-disiccation has been around for while he by no means invented the procedure, but he is pretty much one of the only docs whe uses for Nf. In fact when I was at the waiting room in his office all the patients were NF patients (he is a plastic surgeon and does other stuff too).

As far as insurance mine coverd 50 % of his fees since it was out of nework and 80% of the hospital costs which were in network.

Thank you all for your well wishes!!!

There are laws that regulate what a doctor can charge.

I can tell you for fact that they can't charge full cost fopr each removal during one surgery. Insurance usually regulates this. Before you pay the money grubber make sure that you really owe that amount he is charging!!

I've now found a surgeon here in Australia that does ED. :-) Jess saw him yesterday to have a plexi removed from her chin. It went well. He told me he does the ED. Thing is.. cos we'll go in as public patients... costs our covered by Medicare. :-) BTW. Medicare in Aus.. is not the same as medicare in the USA.

glad to know that your operation went well...
guess you re fully recovered by now...
sad to say we dont have Doctors like them around here in our place... & i dont think our medicare here in the phillipines would be of much help :( .... anyways ill just pray for a miracle!!! -- for now :)

Hi glad to hear it went well. I have NF1 and have made an apt with him in Nov. How are you getting along now?
Was there any scaring?

Good Morning,
I go and see my Dr. on Friday for a follow up on a bump I had removed off my back.. It was the size of a dime and stuck out about an 1/2 to an inch.
I am going to ask him about this electro disication and how much it cost and will my insurance cover it
I will let everyone know what he says.
Thanks for the information.
I have many many bumps all over
Thanks and have a blessed day.

any chance you might be able to post pics of the before and after?? or maybe if you can tell us how the recovery is going?? I have been thinking about doing the procedure myself, but am nervous.

I just got back on Saturday from seeing Dr. Weinberg I had my surgery on 11/11/08 which is a a week tomorrow.
He did my face some off my arms and legs. I do look like I have some awful disease lol I know the scabs will fall off in a few weeks or days. Till then I'm home bound. Walking around New York City is one thing but in a small town of less than 15 thousand is another.

wow, thats awesome! I didnt know that was even possible. I have had a few removed, one at a time, and it was painful and sucked. Let me know if there are any of those in Spokane, Wa

i got the lil bumps all over my stomach and back some itch i like to get them remove
